Default a-mendoza's 2012 Scion tC2 RS7.0 Build Thread

Well im a little to far into my project to make it an official ground up build thread but maybe if i go thru some old photos i can get some progression photos that lead to my tC getting this far. For now enjoy the latest shots of my ride and mods list.

I bought this car in 10/6/2011 because I got tired of constantly having to rush into my modding on my tC1 cause it use to be my daily driver. After buying my tC2 I was able to put better detail and downtime on my tC1 for big boy mods. Since the date of purchase my tC2 was suppose to only be my daily driver but finally decided to make it into my DD/Autocross car. I made sure to do what i could to get ready for the 2014 season so i could be competitive with it. My car in its current mods competes in the STF class for SCCA Autocross. Will see how close we can get to a podium finish with the car for the 2014 points season and maybe even go for the Championship next year once I fully learn the car and get the final tweaks down to run its fastest times.

Honestly this car has never seen a drag strip. The nitrous is simply there just to have fun with. So far it has been thru 1 10lb bottle for testing purposes and 2 races but that's it. Don't really ever use it. I don't promote street racing but I'm not gonna say I've never done it. I keep 99% of my racing on the track but there is that 1% where sometimes you just get caught up in the moment or a buddy is wanting to compare the performance between 2 cars.

Nice car man!...I have a question: I looking to buy this tC carbon fiber "B" pillar and the rear bumper "scion" applique for my car. I saw it at TRD sparks, but not sure how good is the quality. I live in Canada, so for me is not that easy to say "I don't like it and return it" due the shipping cost. For your pictures, looks great, but I like to hear your thoughts about it, if don't mind. Thanks!

TRD sparks sells the same stuff you could buy at the dealership but at dealer cost plus a 10% mark up. Way cheaper than retail at a dealer. Quality will be the same as if u purchased thru the dealer. I say go for it. Quality is worth the buy

Honestly those Continental tires in the pic were just a last minute set of used tires I put on for the shoot after a burned up my other tires at the autocross. They were 225/40/18's so not even the right size. I actually use Michelin defenders for DD and run BFGoodrich Rivals for autocross

I'm not really to sure if I can say It made much of a difference but if there is a gain on it then at least I got it. I know for sure there is a huge difference in weight. The agency pully is like a feather compared to the OEM one. The big ticket performance upgrade would be the nitrous system. That made a huge difference.

I have quite a few questions about that zex kit if I can pick your brain. How long does it last with hard driving ? What did you do for the tune ? It says on installation guide it needs to be tuned somehow if you use more than the 55 hp setting. Seams very vague. They don't say ecu tune or not controller tune. Where exactly did you install the injector on the intake ? Some detailed pictures would be great too. Really thinking about this for screwing around at track. Seams like bang for buck is massive with this kit.

1.) How long it lasts depends on how long you use it for. The kit comes with a 10lb bottle and with a 75shot is good for about 10 full 1/4 mile passes. You may be able to squeeze and extra pass or two before running dry.
2.) There are two things to tune on the car. 1 is "AFR's" and 2 is "Timing". The guys at Zex have already eliminated the AFR tuning for you. As long as bottle pressure is between 900-1000psi then the jets that are recommended for the fuel and nitrous supply will work perfectly so no swaping out jets to adjust AFR's is necessary. As for the Timing, the only way to change that is with a tuner of some sort like a Unichip, AEM F/IC, EMS, etc. I personally have a Unichip in my car but have found that leaving the timing alone for the 75shot is ok. So no timing adjustments were necessary so realistically I dont even need the Unichip to run nitrous. I could just bolt up the kit and go. They say to take away 2-4degrees for a 75shot but thats just a rule of thumb like taking away 1degree per pound of boost on turbo cars. The end result is what you can push without knocking/detonation.
3.) As for the nozzle, its mounted right after the MAF sensor and before the throttle body. The nozzle is were both the nitrous and fuel line combine and spray the proper mixture down the intake stream and finally into the cylinders. If you look closely you can actually see the lines and nozzle that are going into the intake pipe after MAF sensor. on my second to last pic.

If your interested i happen to have an extra Zex nitrous kit up for grabs that is brand new. LMK if your intrested.

I'm interested but I live in Canada so I doubt you'd still want to flip the bill for shipping. Also have you had any cel or anything while using it. N how much does it cost roughly to get the bottle refilled. Don't have a clue where I'd go for that.

Never had a CEL. Refill prices vary by supply and demand. For a really small town that only has one refill station could be as high as $11 a pound. Other places where nitrous is more easily accessible can be as low as $2.50-$3 a pound cause shops have to stay competitive with one another to gain ur business. You'll just have to ask around or search online and find places where they do refills and they will let u know what the going rate is at there location.

We may be able to work something out but I would need to know ur shipping address to see if I can obtain a quote to see what we're looking at

Out of curiosity, how much whp was your generation 1 pushing @ 25 psi (or whenever it was running reliably, I read a thread about a blown motor and ____ but didn't know where you were on that car)

Not a single issue here. Everything here is running great. Car still feels like a brand new car. Never had a check engine light on and definently no problems with the nitrous system.

Never did hit a dyno on the new turbo setup with high boost. I had issues before from my head floating on high boost and ARP studs. Ended up warping the head but i fixed that issue with new thicker ARP studs from Ptuning and resurfacing the head. My car has actually been down yet again for almost a year now but not from car problems. I sold my Greddy boost controller, AEM FIC and N2MB WOT box and started saving for a Dezod AEM EMS V2 and ID1000cc fuel injectors. I finally got my hands on a standalone a couple weeks ago just gotta get it hooked up and tuned on a dyno for the final numbers but that may be awhile as right now im more focused on other side work i got going on and my tC2. I plan to have final numbers and have my tC1 fully running by spring next year on the new EMS. Just dont have the time or extra funds right now to finish it this year. Shoot i may even go ahead and shoot for a larger turbo come tax season before i get the tune done in spring.

So when you gonna do some quarter mile runs with the tc2. I'd love to see maybe 2 or 3 runs with no spray and 2 or 3 runs with 75 shot to get an average. Still humming and hawing about it lol.

I'm not really sure. The track here is only open every other Friday or Saturday for Test and Tune nights and only open till 8pm. I work on those days and don't get home till almost 7pm. No point in me going to the track for 1hr. They would need to have a night were they stay open late for me to go to the drag strip.
