Default Plasti-Dip?

Has anyone used this yet on their rims. Looking to spray my rims for the summer! do they chip and tear easily or is it strong and dependable?

Thanks
Chris

A lot of people have done it. It's not the best, but it's not permanent. Perfect for screw ups and people that change their mind all the time.

Might have to re do occasionally, but it's cheap enough that it's okay... N they r multipurpose. So u can always try other projects with them

Thanks guys! I will give it a whirl. The rims thanks to the Canadian weather will only be in the summer so I'm sure thatll help too!
Thanks!

Lots of people Plasti-Dip their rims and other stuff. It doesn't chip or tear unless it's under really heavy wear or weather. I personally am not a fan of it, i think it looks cheapish on a nice car, but as they said it's inexpensive and not perminant.

I was skeptical at first as well seeing as I just purchased my car three weeks ago but I am very happy with the results. It might not look as good as some painted matte black wheels but for now it does the trick. Check out my forum https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=209538

I went with 3x5 note cards, but, yes, cards are perfect to cover the wheels with.

Yea dont spend your whole day taping off your wheel haha just use cards, and worse case scenario, if you get plasti-dip on your tires it just peels off with your finger.

Anytime I try and plasti dip my wheels, I get almost like a fuzzy texture, and all the other pics I see it looks smooth, any advice on what I am doing wrong? Or does it come out with that fuzzy texture all the time?

You also want to do it in a fewer heavier coats as opposed to the light coats u do with paint

thoroughly clean the wheel. then use thin coats! even if metal shows! after 3-4 coats it should be smooth as glass!

also make sure you evenly apply. I walk around the wheel with the same speed and movements. having thick coats increases the chance of having craters

Guys on my F150 forum use it all the time and it seems to hold up. Easy to fix if something happens though. I am gonna black out my emblems on my truck with it soon.

Just talked to dipyourcar.com and they said that when you spray too far away it looks textured, I know I was like 12" away or so, so that has to be it. I wonder if I can just spray close and fix my pitting, or start over from scratch.

I don't have a jack so it takes forever with the factory jack to do it one at a time

Spray too far get texture. Sprat too close too slow, get drips. Spray too close too fast, you get uneven coverage. Just have to find that sweet spot and practice getting into the grooves of the spokes. I've had mine dipped red (on a Magnetic grey Metallic) surprisingly looks good. After an incident with tire shine a satin finish would look freakin sweet! IMO.. I as well don't have a jack but Taking your time to do one wheel at a time gets me away from the girlfriend haha. Ever consider dipping the side mirror caps? Have mine black and I feel it flows more with the cars color scheme. they come off easy almost like legos

What is the maximum temperature it can handle? I was thinking of blacking out the chrome pipes on my bike, maybe the wheels and some of the shiny engine bits too.

Sounds easier than trying to polish the chrome and avoid putting, and I like the blacked out look.

it wont hold up very well after 300ºF, it'll begin to bubble and shrink and peel and fall off after higher temps
