Is pure pricing really pure?
I've gotten offers from dealers saying that they're discounting $500 because our football team won. I confirmed with them that it applied to scion. Also, on some dealer websites, there is a difference between MSRP and internet price.
The dealer I'm currently working with swears that pure pricing is pure, nothing more nothing less. Even if the car comes with accessories I don't want, I have to purchase them at the listed price.
Thoughts?

Honestly at our dealership it really is pure pricing. I work for Street Toyota & Scion in Amarillo, Tx. One of the great benifits working there is we can buy cars if we want at a highly discounted price. Im talking dealer price. As an employee we pretty much get them at the price they do. Only thing is this does not apply to the Scion's. If we want a Scion we pretty much pay the same as any other customer off the street. I was told the reason it does not apply to Scion is cause they are already so purly priced that there is really no room to haggle for a lower price. Just my 2cents of what i know.
I will chime in on this I guess. Pure pricing is ment to be just that. The way the car comes, whatever the sticker price, is the price. The only thing you can negotiate on is dealer installed accessories, and im not talking about TRD stuff that they add. I mean aftermarket accessories like window tint, wheels, leather, ect. .
However, this does not mean that all dealers honor this system, but if toyota corporate found out dealers where discounting them, that dealer could/would lose its Scion buying privileges. As in, it could not buy anymore scions from toyota to sell. I have experienced first hand that some dealers don't care.
I did not buy my tC from the dealer that was going to give me $$$ off. Why? If they will not honor a system with a partner (toyota) that they deal with daily, are they going to realy take care of me, a one time customer? Nope. They will do anything to turn a quick buck. However, I did get some free stuff, all dealer installed options. The place I bought my car has a good track record, and is family owned/operated
But what do I know, im just some guy on a forum. I just happened to sell cars for over 3 years, and worked at a dealership that was reputable, and one that was less than reputable. The first place I sold cars at, I would/will buy cars from them again, the second place would have to pay me....

When i bought my tc2 i had to buy mine at sticker but when it came to accessories like trunk lip, fogs, and stuff like that they discounted those prices really good...i got my spoiler for free, and i got my all weather mats for free as well! not to mention a great price on one of my trade ins...im going today to see how much they will give me for my tc2 so i can get the rs 7.0
I ordered mine today, at 19305. I had already put a deposit down at the dealer so it was too inconvenient to go around to save a buck. Accessories are at good prices at toyotasparks.com so I think I'll get most of them from there.
That is a good idea. Congrats on the new car man!
Thanks. I'll get most parts installed at the dealer though. My dad has a friend there.
btw, where can i get one of these, and are they legal in MD?

They can tell you to have it, (front plate) I dont think they can tell you where to put it, as long as it is completly visable, you should be fine.
I am new here but have never bought a Toyota or Scion so I am new to the while pure price concept. I was looking at scion tc RS 7.0 in my area and noticed that all of them listed are 1500$ + more then the msrp for M/T equipped tc RS msrp prices. Are dealers allowed o charge over msrp for those models even with the so called Pure pricing ?
Can anyone that purchased a tc RS 7.0 chime in ? Did you pay msrp exactly ?
I was looking to pick up a TC2 as a dd. It's a very nice looking car and I love
The loud paint of the RS and also the keyless go push start function.

On the Toyota side, they can charge what they want. When I was selling Mazda’s, the Tribute SUV had just come out, and were selling so fast that the dealers started charging over MSRP, and we continued to sell them faster than we could get them. Same happened the first few months in 2010 when the new Camaro came out.
Bottom line is, the Toyota/Scion dealers have an agreement with Toyota that they won’t pull this kind of BS on Scions. If you called and filed a complaint with Scion, they would tell you they can’t do anything about it, however, if enough people called with the same complaint, you will probably start seeing less Scions available at that dealer.
There is a dealer in AR near my wife's work that is known for being shady, and I dont know the situation, but you can see on their sign, the inprint of where the Scion logo used to be.
Beyond the Pure Pricing, the part that differs greatly from dealer to dealer in my recent investigations has been the dealer document fee ranging from $50-$195 in my area, and some dealers asking you to pay the VIT(vehicle inventory tax), which as a consumer you do NOT have to pay.
Personally I think the Pure Pricing scheme is crap. I have never paid more than $300 over invoice for any car including 1 of 15000 Civic Si's that are much more limited in production than a standard TC. Pure Pricing was designed for the average idiot that lacks any negotiating skills. However, the car still seems to be a fair value even with the automatically applied profit compared to what most similar cars cost today.
I'd still rather negotiate on my own, of course I still can somewhat with the above mentioned doc and VIT stuff. My plan is to pay for a base model with zero options plus TT&L and "maybe" $50 doc fee if I like the salesman. They can shove the rest.

It seems hard to find manual TC's the only one I could locate in the RS 7.0 had $1,600.00 of dealer "add ons" one of them being a "paint protection" option and also premium floor mats, not worth $1,600.... unless the clear coat on these cars is seriously lacking.
According to what I see on the website and what is posted as the MSRP, the AT version should only be $1,000 more putting the manual at $21,625.00, and the A/T at $22,625.00 both including delivery. Even after calling up about 4 dealerships I have yet to find a Scion without any "add ons" resulting in an additional $500-$1,000 more.

Have the dealer trade for one, or order you a new one. Since there is a notion of "pure pricing", you should get exactly what you want. Theres no reason for settling for what they have if you can't even negotiate it.
@Philipangoo: Where are you located? I'm aware of ~5 RS7's in my area that appear to be at msrp.

I live in Dallas, TX. After spending some time on the phone with a few dealerships they are all confident that they can order one bare bones for me and get it into the dealership before the end of the month but they want me to "act quick" because the RS 7.0 will not be produced for much longer (its reaching its production limit of 2200).
Its weird, some of the dealerships don't even have a single M/T TC on the lot so I can test drive it.

Just to put in my two pennies... But When I went to get my scion I looked in gainesivlle and the dealer wanted 25000. for the scions they had on the lot. Something about Dealer Add ons.... Cough Bull ____..... But then I went to lake city and got it for about 18000 for the exact same car as they were selling in G-ville. (I looked up the features online) So I think it depends on if you have a upstanding dealer. Roundtree moore in lake city florida did good by me.
