Anyone here get rust proofing from the dealer? I didn't, just wondering if there's anything else i should be doing to rust proof my car for the winter?

Is your car new? I heard that its not neccessary to rust proof from the dealership. It is another way to make money since the car comes rust proofed already from manufacters.

that sounds like another thing for the dealership to sucker people into spending.

just clean your car regularly and take particular notice to the underside of the vehicle.

 

here in wisconsin, i would suggest getting rust proofing just because of all the salt on the roads. my dad got it for his 95' T100 and to this date, it still hasn't rusted. my uncle bought an 02' Tundra, and now it's all rusted up on the bottom.

i wouldn't get it from the dealer because they overcharge you. there are places that charge much less

 

I run to a $4 car wash down the street once or twice a week in the winter to rinse the bottom of the car off. It hasn't rust yet lol

 

I had mine done at Krown. Eastern and Central Canada use a lot of salt on the roads. You can wash your car until your blue in the face and it will still rust.

Take it from your fellow Canuck, get it oiled. Otherwise, the dealer stuff is fine as it's supported by lifetime rust warranty.

 

Oh yeah that's how it is in Ohio, too. We got new roads on one of the streets here where I live before last winter. When spring came around they had to redo the roads cuz of all the potholes from teh salt. I don't know why the city can't use the sand based "salt".

 

Thanks, I think I'll get it done. I called a couple of Krowns and their prices vary between 110 to 119+tax

They all said they'd have to drill holes in the body, but all varied on the how many. One said only 2-3 holes in the door area, this other guy sounded like he was going to take a paperpunch to my car and drill holes everywhere. Any thoughts on that?

I had mine done at the Concord, Ont. location. They did 4 holes in each door well (2 upper, 2 lower) and 2 in the rear trunk area.

You can barely notice them. Yes, it does suck they have to do it, but I'd rather no rust on my car down the road and I know the next owner of it will appreciate that much more then a few plugged holes.

Some people hate it, others don't mind. I personally don't mind as I don't notice it down the road.

 

i drive a Xa 07' in MA and I don't think you need it. Just take your car to the wash and have get the undercarriage washed. Make sure they use warm/hot water.
I do it everytime it snows and I don't have any rust really. Just have a bit on the exhaust and hangers but its only surface.
They salt the roads like crazy here too.
