So since the new tC's have came out i have not been a fan of the body.....however, i stopped off at a toyota dealership today to speak to a long lost buddy that's a technician there. While waiting for him to get to a point he could run inside and say hey i stumbled across one in the showroom. My wife and i walked around it, following the odd body lines in the front and rear and really for the first time got an up close look at it. I then opened the drivers door and sat down. As soon as i sat down and could no longer see the outside i was quite stricken by the interior! Everything from the steering wheel, a/c vents, and seats were great! So long story short, hate the outside........love the interior.
P.S. too bad it was a friggin auto

Sorry to hear you don't like the outside. I'm actually a fan of the more aggressive look. But I agree the inside is great. Very clean in a world of car with almost countless buttons and gauges. I've only had the chance to put about 400 miles on mine, but the seats are more comfortable than many, more expensive cars I've owned.
Take a manual for a spin. It's not rocket, but it's a fun car to drive.
P.S. Thanks for your service.

The exterior will grow on you lol idk why but it just happens.
There are times when I'll walk up to my car, and the light will hit those crazy body lines.
I stand there and say "holy ____" this thing is sickkk.
Once a few come out stanced I think overwhelmingly ppl will accept it

I could see you liking the interior if you liked the one from your 1st gen xB.. since they basically went more that direction. For those of use that preferred the more modern design of the 1st gen the new one just looks like they ..... well... went back to 1st gen xB style
Its all preference of course. I just dont see many fans of the first gen tC that like the new one at all. Dealers are offering to straight up buy back 1st gens at blue book or higher to fill the demand of all the people that prefer those (the dealer I bought from has already offered blue book at minimum on mine ... straight up purchase, no trade) and I would guess those are the people that already liked it before the new one came out.
If it performed a lot better than the first one I could maybe learn to like it ... but I dont know. Since I already have a tC, prepped, autox setup, etc I wouldnt ever buy another one. The next car will be something different.
Not bashing the new one and not trying to insult anyone that has one, but I just feel that for the most part people either like the new or the old. Maybe a mix of both, but especially on the interior, it would be very hard to go from mine to a new one. I dont feel the outside of the new one is more aggressive either. It reminds me more of the designs of the new Ford sedans and coupes honestly.

Wow, I didn't realize there was such dissent on the new tC. Guess I should have known. Anytime there is a body redesign, there are mixed reactions, I just didn't think the new tC was THAT much different than the old. Old one had more curves, new one is boxier and I happen to like the new look better.
It is all preference. But most 1st gen owners I have heard talk about it dont like the new one that much. Some is just due to basically no change in performance (a little more power, but more weight and hence practically identical acceleration numbers) and the looks really do it for some, but not others. The new one looks a lot different from the old really, especially the interior.
What gets me is how some of the reviews and tests claim "15.6 sec 1/4 mile, which is a good improvement over the old model" ... and I even read one test that claimed the old model ran the 1/4 in over 16 sec. I am not sure if they are working for dealers selling the new model or what, cause 15.6 is what the 1st gen ran in the 1/4 mile (and a lot ran it a lot quicker once the crappy stock tires were swapped out). The numbers I see on the new are pretty much the same as the old. They do claim that the power curve is shifted more toward the midrange, so it feels like it is pulling harder, but overall about the same.
The suspension is a bit stiffer I thikn on the new one, which is nice, but most enthusiasts replace that anyways. Either show queens that slam it and destroy the handling anyways, or people like me that autox and want a much larger improvement.
So I think a lot of it comes to looks, and that will always be different for everyone. I think they changed the things that the 1st gen fans like the most (curvy body lines, pusbutton controls and modern looking dash) in that area, so those people will have a hard time swallowing the new design. Nothing bad against the new one, since others love the new look obviously.

I wasnt even at the dealer. They sent me a letter about it
I wouldnt do it though. My car is paid off long ago, I love it and it is prepped pretty well for autox. So not only would I have to buy another car, I would have to get mine back to stock for them to buy it for that much most likely. Their letter even said if it was still in good enough shape they would offer to buy over blue book. They had 7 orders just that month for 1st gens over and above what they had on the lot! A couple of others on the forums have gotten the same offers from what I have seen.
It is good to see that there is a good demand for the 1st gens, even used! They wont want mine when I am finally done with it... it will most likely be good and worn out with tons of miles on it :D
