Default Summertime blues

Ok so, any of you that know the Northern VA / DC / MD area, you know it's time for Springscrewthatit'sHOT with heat indexes over 100 and the like...

I cranked on my AC for the first time since I bought this car, and damn! One can call it parasitic drag but it felt like:

2nd gear was horrible! I felt like the gear got up and fell right out of the gearbox!! LOL

So how bad has your car been with the AC on? Is this as bad as you expected? Ever had it worse with another car?

Can you make it better?!

(I'm kinda bored at work. So sue me.)

My car isnt that bad... I usually dont get on it when the AC is on anyway.
On the other hand my wife and I took her car ( 2011 Corolla S ) to Georgia over Memorial weekend (about a 7 hour trip) and we had the AC on the whole way. WOW that thing has no power!!!! we averaged 32.8 MPG though for the whole trip.

Scratch: Yes, the tC is a bit of a dog with the A/C on. I've had mine on for a couple months here in FL and it's rough. You'll also notice gas mileage will drop about 2 mpg. Ugh. Feels a lot like driving this...

On a separate note, better be careful with your signature block. Being in the MD, VA, DC area and claiming to be armed, they might just arrest you! I seem to remember having to have a permit for a squirt gun there, right?

We hit 103 here in Ga on Tuesday without a heat index...

Not to mention the humidity was at 100%. What sucks is that I install commercial air conditioners for a living, but never get to feel the benefits of my installations.

As for the car. I usually ride with the windows down and the top open. Kind of get used to the heat when you always have to work in it.

Superpickel I am right above you...how in the h#$% can you stand that!? I have been running my a/c wide open for a month now! I'm allergic to sweat, I do enough of that in the rubber mine, aka Bridgestone factory. Mine feels like it loses 50 horses easy in the middle of the 100+ degree days with the a/c on or off.

My brain would feel like it lost 50 horses in 100+ degree days.

MightyP I'll tell ya, DC is the only issue out here. VA is a nice place to be if you enjoy the RKBA, I lived in NY for many many years and it was horrible in comparison. Glad to be back in this area, just waiting on some 32rd mags for one of my Springfield XDs. I also greatly enjoy telling people I have an xB, XD, and tC... they never get it.

What, you missed spring over here? it was that one day in May, you know after the rain EVERY DAY stopped, before it immediately shot up to 90 degrees and 100% humidity. Good times, or I should say time.

Bring a blow up kiddie pool, ice, and a tent to every car show from here on out. Oh, and in my xB I turn the A/C off right before the light changes at stoplights, otherwise the bicyclists get mad at me for not getting out of their way.

Damn, see.... ouch. Things like that make me remember why I went into computers. Sitting in a Datacenter kept at 65 or so is a nice way to spend the summers...

vettereddie spoken like a true DC Metro resident. I think I remember that day, I went outside and my cars, house, and dog, were all covered in pollen, but it was a nice day. Best 24 hours yet.

I totally feel you on the xB. Whenever we go up to the W&OD Trail with everything piled in the xB, if that A/C is on I seriously feel like getting out and racing. I'm a fair guy though. I'd give the xB 4 lengths and time for me to put the front tire on my bike.

Kinda why I started this thread too... merging from 66W onto 28N I have to punch it to get from the slow omfg death lane into flowing traffic, and the one time I tried it in the tC with the A/C on, damn it dogged. Normally I love getting on it in 2nd, but wow... just.... wow.

Yeah, I gotta come up with a new game plan.. Money is great there, but the Bridgestone Retirement plan is called "Long Term Disability or Death"

Yeah, forgot about the pollen. In may, every road is the yellow brick road, and every xB is an RS1. Absolutely hate having black sand pearl as a color in the spring.

Well, in the HVAC industry, you get used to working in the heat. I know one job that we are doing right now is a up and running chicken processing plant. I have no idea how the workers stand it, but it is on average around 90-95 degrees inside the plant. We are giving them the pleasure of 40 tons of air conditioning. The sad part is that I do not get to share in their pleasure. The a/c gets bumped on as soon as I leave (inconsiderate). After doing that all day, I usually am just happy to catch a breeze, hence rolling down the windows and opening the top. However, the future looks bright. A year and a half more and I graduate and will be entering the video game industry as a programmer. A/c and swiveling office chairs... Yahhhh!!!!!

Good plan bud, stick to it. Fortunately my slave pit has a/c. They know we'd drop like flies without it. So would the computers running everything.
BTW..Do you like chicken? Do you still like it?!?! Most people who see a meat processing plant usuallly lose the taste for it. Never had the pleasure, hope I never have to either. I have heard some horror stories.

After spending some time on the eastern shore of MD where Purdue, Tyson and Holly Farms are, it's not seeing the chicken plants that get you, it's the smell. Still eat some tasty roasters though.

So, bringing this back up, most of us should now be in the midst of stupidly thick summer air. Is your tC2 dealing with it? Trying to burn this moist air just seems to be killing any level of acceleration on my end. I've been driving for mpg, trying to stay a gear higher than needed, able to do 28mpg combined, but merging is just painful.

Anyone found any good in this mess?

First, I think Scion202 has the right idea with insulating the AC hoses. Second, the Descendant CAI has greatly reduced what I call the AC lag. The loss in power you get from about 3k-4k rpm with the AC on... still haven't found a way to get my lost gas mileage back with the AC on

I don't know about the XD, but Glocks have pretty big mags available. Though if I'm gonna get a gun with 30the rds a clip, I'm gonna jump thru the hoops and get me a Bushmaster CQBR with 10.5" barrel and colapsable stock.

Oh and actually on the thread topic... The tC is still better than the V-6 Ford Escape. Every time you put the engine under load, the AC blows warm air! It's a V-6! WTF???

my buddy had a 30rd clip on his glock. thought it was funny cuz he had this massive clip to get 30, and my regular clip fits 18, lol.
