I'm looking at the A/C line insulation, just seeing if the work involved would justify the end results. Regardless of the improved efficiency of the A/C, would it take that much load off the engine? The engine is still trying to combust air with a high percent of moisture in it...
If you google the company ProMag and look for part number SPR-A3 you'll find the Springfield XD (they have it in both 9mm and 40small&weak)

Would it improve the performance of the A/C and get colder air into your car? Yes.
Would it improve the performance of your engine and make your car peppier? No.
And besides having to double the room for double the bullets, the spring has to be a lot better. More travel and more weight to push. Other than for the gee whiz factor, you really don't want a 30 rd mag for a handgun. (Way off thread topic, but since Scratch is the OP and went down the road...) Besides losing much of the practical aspect a handgun provides (Have you ever tried to carry a gun with that big a mag in a holster? Good luck sitting down!), in a situation where you would need to fire 30 rds without reloading, you should really having something more than a pistol. Reloading a pistol, with practice, should take less than 1 sec. Plus, as a civilian, if you have a threat that requires more than 10-15 rds (I carry a sub-compact with 6 rds and no extra clips), you should NOT engage!!! Either you are too poor a shot or there are too many targets. Either way, you need to find an alternative.
There is also the reliability issues with magazines. Single most common reason a gun misfires is because of the magazine (this holds true with any weapon that uses a mag, not just pistols). And if you have a 30 rd mag, are you really going to carry extra mags with you? Then what happens if your mag fails? Where's the backup? If you genuinely believe you might need 30 rds (and really, the magic number is 45 for a firefight with a pistol), bring an extra clip (or 2). And while we're on magazine reliability, a couple tips for you. 1. Leave the minimum amount of magazines loaded you feel you need. Mags have a lifespan, and it's only about a year if they are fully loaded. 2. Leave 1 slot empty in your mags. Even in Iraq we left an empty slot in each of our M4 mags. Better to shoot 29 rds than keep 30 in a jammed gun.

I Cant wait for December when it will be cool enough to drive my car in AR without A/C. I have yet to turn it off since I bought it, so it is going to feel like a whole new car!
At least one of us can stay on topic........ : )

lol P! I knew I liked you for a reason other than your ruggedgood looks. The hi-cap is for range fun, that's it. I don't even bother with a 9mm for carry, only 6 rounds myself, and they are a classic old caliber, with a nice 3" barrel.
as for the ac wrapping, seems like a somewhat useful thing for this weather, but i'm just worried about how sluggish this big lump feels in this humidity.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought I had a blown motor the first couple times I got on the car.....
I understand it's a 4 cylinder car with a relatively peaky torque band, but the thing is SLOOOOWWWWW with the A/C on and, while not fast, it feels significantly peppier with it off.

I drive with the AC on almost all the time bc I am always hot in my car no matter time of day and I like listening to music rather than hearing wind, road and other vehicle noise (although sometimes, it is just what I need). Anyways, the difference in "peppiness" with the AC on or off is not a big deal and doesn't bother me. Now, over the weekend I went to visit family in Phoenix AZ and all I have to say is, wow this thing is slow.. Glad I don't live there... By the way, I live in southern Cali..

Is the difference in peppiness different in Arizona? Can you elaborate? =X You made it seem like the car wasn't slow in the first part of your statement, but then changed it at the end...
Sorry if I didn't put enough detail, I needed a nap..
Yes, in the first part the car is fine, not fast, but definitely not slow. Now in the second part when I went to phoenix, the car was definitely slow. It was a huge noticeable difference. Now its 109 in the day in Phoenix and like 100 at night with SUPER hot wind and breezes. I swear it felt like the car couldn't breathe...
So I guess my point was that it may well be the difference in area that is affecting the car with the AC on (and off for that matter, 100+ degree air is no good)

That combined with an AC compressor dragging on the motor will CERTAINLY suck some horsepower.
I haven't noticed much difference in the acceleration; most cars nowadays cut off the compressor under hard acceleration anyway. It's not like my first car was back in high school.
It does have a damn fine A/C unit. Almost as good as a GM car, which is the pinnacle of A/C performance as far as I'm concerned!

No worries. The car with the AC on here in the day still has some pep. I am sure you will enjoy the car. I sometimes don't even bother with first gear, 2nd and third is really all I need. It also keeps my speed in check bc when I am in fourth gear, it is so smooth that it takes me a minute to realize I am traveling at 60 MPH in a 40 zone..

You start at 2nd gear? Doesn't that put extra strain on your transmission?
I'm not by any means an expert, but I have put in a decent amount of research.
Its been a solid 95 here in ky, and I couldn't be happier :/
Cold literally makes my life hell...knees hurt, shoulders hurt, wrists and fingers hurt...and thats just when I wake up. I'll take rolling the windows down or riding my bike somewhere in the heat over 20,000 layers of clothing any day, lol.

Yeah it probably does put more strain on the drivetrain, but the motor has got enough torque down low that it doesn't feel like it is much strain. The right amount of gas and clutch slip and she takes off smooth in second.
