Default tC2 Transmission/clutch clunk noise.

Hey guys

I've had my tC2 for roughly 2 weeks, about 600 miles on it, and today I noticed a weird clunk noise when I first release the clutch after shifting a gear.
It sounds as if the backlash of the differential was really off....or if something was loose on the clutch assembly.

Anybody else noticed it?

I'll check with my dealer ASAP but I wanted to check here if it was "normal"

Thanks!

I hear clunking noise sometimes when shifting into gear, but not when I release the clutch.

Mustn't be too important, I found another thread about the tC1 being clunky...

I'll try to ignore it.

I'm experiencing the same thing my car has 1500 miles and this clunk sucks, I previously owned a 5 speed xb and use to do the same, maybe the diff has some play, I will really like to know whats the cause of the noise, in the xb was driving me Crazy!!!

Tranny is noisy, everyone with a manual on this board has noticed it. Don't sweat it. They are a bit rough when new, but they break in and get a lot better. it takess a couple thousand miles to fully break in, so be patient. Winter sucks with these cars, 30F and below the tranny feels like it has peanut butter for gear oil until it warms up. Hopefully this winter it will not be as bad with mine being fully broken in. I bought mine last October, cussed the tranny until March. A weighted shift **** improves shifter feel tons.

I get the same noise. I noticed it after my first oil change=5000 miles. I just had my 10,000 mile service done and I had them check it out. The mechanic said it was a shaft that spins when you depress the clutch pedal. He said it was normal. The even checked for particles inside the trans case. Found nothing. They said to remind them to check it again next time I change the oil. Sounds like all the manual `11 tCs are making that noise. I recommend everyone go and make your local dealer check it out, who knows, if they get enough complains they may look into it closely. Might be a recall if it causes a problem later on...

I've owned a bunch of stick shift cars, two I can relate directly an 05 TC, 07 Yaris and the 2011 XB( that I mentioned on this thread) the tc and the Yaris never had this characteristics, there's got to be a flaw or a bad design on this new gearboxes, the xb that I had only for 4 months it was a LOT worst than the TC even depressing the clutch very slowly will clunk the TC2 is not that bad but still enough to make the car feel cheap, there is also a slight grind when shifting to 2nd that happens randomly but it happens more when the tranny still cold. I think the clunk when depressing the clutch it has to do with the differential or input shaft.

There is something that called my attention when I found out that the Toyota Zelas same as the U.S TC that is sold in south america and middle east it only comes in Automatic maybe the manual transmission on the tc is pretty weak and will not withstand the punishment of this roads.
