Power Steering issue
So i have a 2016 tC. There are only 35,200 miles on it. Late in the hours of the weekend, my girlfriend drove the tC over a curb at a high speed. The front tires took a little damage but that was it cosmetically. HOWEVER, i noticed that the power steering was not working, the steering wheel is tight and hard to turn and when you do turn it, or the power steering works momentarily, it does not return to center on its own. I took it to an auto repair shop and he said that the rack and pinion looked okay but the electronic power steering needed further diagnostic and i should get an alignment. So i took her to Evans tire for an alignment and they looked at it and said the alignment was pretty good, however the issue was the electronic rack and pinion. They came to this conclusion in about 10 minutes so not a deep dive. I did a hard reset by disconnecting the negative battery port. and its still an issue, i realized there is a slight creak when turning the wheel as well.
There are no maintenance or warning lights on. Although they work, as i had an abs light on from a abs circuit i had replaced. My question is what the hell is going on, and who do i go to thats not going to ____ me on cost. I had Evans tire ready to replace the whole rack and pinion for a small $3000. Any recommendations?
