That's a good question, I'm afraid you are alone on this one. Nobody else on here with that offset and width rim wants a fat tire, they all go the other way. Since you are getting it boosted I do see why you want wider tires. I think that 245/40/18's would work with minor rubbing on the occasional bump since you are on TRD's. 255/40's would hang over the rim a tad, and would probably rub enough to warrant fender rolling. I checked the specs on 35 series, a 255/35/18 would be 1 inch smaller diameter than stock... Roughly 1/2" smaller diameter than your current tires. 255/40/18's diameter is almost dead on the stock tire's diameter of 25.97" I would not want to alter the gearing that much, more wheel spin from the smaller diameter and not to mention even more fender gap.. My 245/40's do a fantastic job holding the road, WAY better than stock. I am not boosted so take that for what it's worth. I'm sure a turbo would light them up no problem. Are you getting a LSD or clutch upgrade with the boost install? The LSD would be your best bet for improving traction. If I had your bank and ride, I'd buy the LSD before you spent more on tires. Just ask the guys building your car what size they think you can get away with, I'm sure they have the knowledge. plus the car is in front of them to take measurements. I know you may have seen this site but just in case. It helped me tons, it gives all the dimensions you need to know in a easy to use format.

A 275 /35/18 will supposedly fit your rim and is about the same diameter as your 235/40's. That's a lot of rubber on the ground!

Thanks for that info. I will go ahead and ask Dezod what they suggest. The tires i bought with the rims was a package deal and are not even a popular name brand. It kept down cost at the time. Also, they are all seasons and with the turbo, i'd prefer high performance tires. I bought all seasons due to living out here in chicago where the weather changes as often as i change my underwear (poor analogy, i know). Now that this car is not my daily, i might as well go with high performance rubber. Any suggestions as to the best tire out there? I looked up 255/40/18 which you suggested. I'm leaning that way. Also, i'll be dropped on Ksports when they finally come out.
I've got an A/T so the LSD i believe is out of the question.

1stOne would be a good guy to ask on tire choice. He does that AutoX stuff, he seems to know what sticks. He runs the Advan AD08 on his in a 255/40/18. His rim is a +45 offset I think. He's on TRD's too. I am kind of biased as I work for
Bridgestone. I have yet to get a bad set of Bridgestones, plus I get a pretty good discount.

he also had 3mm spacers machined for him so final offset is 42

...Don't worry though, I like Bridgestone tires a lot. But for the price, RE11's are just to "tame". Need something like the Toyo R1R, then we'll talk! Haha.
Yep, I'm about 42 offset now.
To the OP, your going to have to base your decision on a number of things. Alignment settings, inner clearance, outer clearance, fender clearance, clearance to the bumper/fender when turning, etc, etc.
From the looks of things, your front camber is really not high enough to accept a wide tire. This is exactly what I thought might happen by going to a +35 offset, which is why I started at +45 and "shimmed" for what I needed.
In all honesty, with your current setup today, a 245 is probably the max you can run without altering the geometry of the car. If you go wider, your going to need camber up front which will make the car more twitchy under straight line acceleration and braking - not good if your boosting for straight line driving.
But measure and see. Like others have said, I have 255/40R18 Advan AD08's now and I know I have room for 265's at min. I want 275/35R18 though, but my worry is the same as yours: clearance.
Keep us posted with what you find.
His car is an automatic too, so 245/40's will probably be plenty for a weekend warrior toy. I don't know if scionchicop is building the tranny to take the full 9-10 psi most kits are running. Descendant and others claim the auto can't handle 300+ h.p. Something like 250 h.p. is the limit supposedly.. We'll see when he gets the car back in a few months.
@ 1stOne, have you seen at the track if there is anything to the hype about the new Michelin Pilots? I have never had a set of Michelin's I liked, they always crack and dry rot long before they wear out. Too pricey imo as well.

Nothing from my experience. A lot of the Porsche guys are running Pilot Cup's but they also do it for the sizes.
I've been hearing a lot of good things about the BFG R1 and if I had the money would probably try them out. Depends on your type of racing though really.
But ya, back on topic, I think 245 is a good width to go with. Pick something sticky and you wont regret not going wider.
