With a grille:

This was a re-do and the vent is a little different (I like the above two pics better)

I've determined the size, shape, and placement of the vent (and it took a lot of time).

I didn't use my S2000 as a pattern, I worked completely off the dimensions of the xA - but the shape and measurements are very similar.

The rest of the design work is easy.

I can't photoshop exactly how it should look, but this is getting closer to what I want.

just curious, i was kicking around the idea of a carbon fiber rear spoiler, exactly like oem, but just made of carbon fiber. is that something your company would do? cause i know my dealership won't sell carbon fiber hoods....but, they probably would go for a carbon fiber rear spoiler.

Yes I would not mind having a option for something like this. The xB gets so many CF parts, while we xA ppl set on the side lines

Vent size and placement shown below. The lip around the vent opening will be similar to the one on my S2000 (pic above). The vent opening will flare out a bit more when the trailing edges of the lip are added.

I examined a lot of variables including what engine parts are directly under the vent, size of the radiator, basic airflow through the engine compartment, dimentions of the engine compartment, lines of the exterior hood, etc.

I can't get the lip right with photoshop. And I need to slightly change the shape of the vent again.

I agree with mikochu. This hood is close to what I'm looking for, but IMO, the design doesn't flow with the car.

Since I've been working on a vented hood design, I understand how easy it is to make a bad looking hood. Moving something 1/4 inch can make a HUGE difference in the way it looks.

I've tried to incorporate the lines of the OEM hood into my design. The vent utilizes the curvature of the rear of the hood. The leading edge of the lip utilizes the curvature of the front of the hood (In the above pics the leading edge is straight).

The only design element still to be determined is the angle and length of the trailing edges of the lip. I have to decide between a couple of choices, but the only definitive way is to mock it up.

I could probably have my design manufactured by Mastergrade, or a couple of other companies I have worked with, but I'm not interested in retailing aftermarket hoods, and one-offs are pretty expensive, so anyone that wants to produce it is cool with me!

I don't have the right xA pic to cut and paste the Audi bumper.

This is all I can do right now. I'm off to work a 17-hour shift at the hospital (2PM-7AM).

Many of the latest bumper designs from Japan are now using a large rectangle opening in the front. It's more radical design than most aftermarket bumpers available for the xA. I like the OEM style xA bumper, and the bumper on the Audi above, but they are not very different than other bumpers, like the kenstyle, etc.

I would like to see someone produce a bumper with a large rectangular opening, the same width as the xA grille opening. There would be a splitter on the bottom. I don't have time to do a good photoshop now, but I can work on one soon. I think it will look awesome, and it's very different from what's out there now. It won't be as wild looking as the S2000 below, but the design would be somewhat similar:

PS - It's best if the side vents are functional, or if they have removable inserts, so we can install a CAI or brake ducting.

Still needs more work, but I like it. The splitter below the bumper needs some more photoshopping. I want to put a black screen in the opening, similar to the OEM type. I think it's going to look great with my vented hood design.

Here's the latest. I also started a new thread since I'm going beyond the topic of this one:
