Default xA trailer hitch

Does anyone have a trailer hitch for their xA? The only one I've seen online is made by CURT MFG. It's pretty expensive for a 1.25" hitch at $140 plus shipping. I'm not going to tow a trailer. I'm just going to use it for my bike rack. I'm glad it's a "no drill" installation. I wonder if it tucks up behind the bumper? I hate it when the cross bar hangs too low. Any opinions?

I saw an xA the other day with 2 bikes mounted on the roof the xA. It looked funny, the bike seemed bigger than the car. I have not seen any rear mount bike racks available for the xA. Where did you buy the rack?

Any hitch mounted bike rack should work on that hitch. That's why I got the hitch for the Toaster....just haven't installed it yet, much less looked for the actual rack. I didn't wanna go with the roof system on the xB, since it's a little taller and I drive too much to bring the MPG down any more than I have to.

I think the Yakima roof rack looks GREAT on the xA, if you were to wanna go that route, plus it could do a luggage basket, kayaks, etc. (Pics to come soon of the 14 ft Kayak on the 13 ft xA).

For now, here's a thread that has a pic of a really nice xA w/Yak.

There was a guy last year that actually got a towing hitch installed on his even though alot of us advised against it. He was hauling a motorcycle I think it was on a small flatbed behind it for a few hundred miles maybe?
Darn if I can't remember who it is though and the old information has probably been purged out of the search system.

I don't know when I'll get around to putting the kayak on the xA, but here's a pic of it on the old bug, which is about the same length.

well i ordered the hitch. price including shipping was $158. it looks simple to install. it bolts on using the same holes as the rear shipping tie-down brackets. when i get it and install it, i'll post some pictures of it and the Yakima hitch mount bike rack.

Go for it! I installed the CURT MFG. hitch on my xA about three weeks ago. The hitch is completely hidden except for the receiver box which hangs down just below the bumper cover. Since I have a Borla exhaust on my car I had to put a small indent in the top of the tip so the crossover bar would clear. The indent is only about 1/4" and cannot be seen. Other than that, the install didn't take more than 20 minutes. Good Luck!

Default hitch

I have a DaLan hitch on mine. Very simple to install. You drop the exhaust and disconnect the two bumper tabs. Unbolt the tiedowns and use the same holes. Very clean and the only think you can see id the reciever hanging down. I use it for a bike rack and a hitch hauler. I also have a rack for the roof.
