Default 2004 or 2005 xA, how do you know?

My new xA should arrive any day now. It may be a stupid question but I just realized that I wouldn't know it if they gave me a new 2004 instead of a 2005. Is there any way to tell the difference physically? I expect the paper work will say 2005 on it but I would like to know of all the differences in the model years. May come in handy when ordering aftermarket parts too.

Was just wondering if there is any visable differences, like trim, color choices, additional options, etc. Some web sites list parts for '04 but not '05. Guess, if there is no difference, can order '04 parts without fear of fit. What in the VIN indicates model year?

Hmm, not sure, but here's a link to what to look for on the ID plate (driver's door):

http://www.anythingtoyota.com/scion/...n-id-chart.asp

And no, there is absolutely no difference (aftermarked part-wise) between '04 and '05 models.

Thanks for the link. In the years to come, used shoppers will find such info valuable when trying to determine the book value. I'm getting the 7/100 extended so I'm planning on keeping mine for awhile.

the stereo was changed in 05, I believe, I'm not sure. It allows personalization on the "welcome" screen, where you can program it so say what you want it to. Mine yes, "Yes, Master?" I think this only affects the 6disc Stereo though. . . but I'm not sure about this.

Guess I'll find out about the standard single cd system when I get the car. The only options I'm getting is cruise control, automatic, & extended warranty. Was gonna get the mats but ordered them from ScionPartsPeople.com which link I got from this forum. The dealer option was $120. but I got the front 4 mats for $48.75 including shipping and no tax. Came from Toyota of Puyallup fast and perfect. Now if the car they go in would get here. Several inches of snow still on the ground here and calling for more, so didn't want to pick up my new xA without mats.

It affects the regular stereo as well. Both the 6-disc and regular stereo allow you to customize the display, so if you can't do it it means you have an '04 stereo (which has been known to happen! The cars come sans radio, and the dealer has to put one in there, and I know a few people that got '04 radios in their '05 cars, but it's a simple trip back to the dealership to get the right one in your car).

Thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to read the owners manual on the subject and if it don't work the way it says, back to the dealer I'll go.

it will be in a seperate manual. . . there is a completely seperate manual, just for the stereo.

Also, as Mikochu stated, check your passenger side visor, it should have a mirror. But otherwise, there is a VERY low likelihood that you will get an 04. They are well into the 05 production year. . .

The mirrors I noticed in the test drive but didn't know the '04 didn't have a passenger side. Wish they were lighted but doesn't really matter to me either way. Probably will be cheaper to replace, as the years go by, if need be.

Look in the Driver's door jam. The label there will tell the Date of Manufacture.

maybe that's what that link showed, above, I didn't look...

I've noticed that on 2004s, the VIN stickers on the various body panels are white. On 2005s they are black. I don't know if this applies to the xAs, though.

Question: did they add a vanity mirror to the RH visors of xBs in 2005 as well?
