Default Air Filter Change prompts service engine light?

I changed my oil today and after wrestling with the air filter, declided I just as well replace it. I had to unplug the sensor, unplug a few hoses since I have a strut brace blocking it to swap the filter. I started the car up, no leaks everything sounded ok and drove off. Saw my service engine light was on.

Anyway, It seems to run fine, I used my scan guage to clear the codes before I thought about writing them down.

Any idea if unplugging the air flow sensor can case that problem?

If you had the key in and in the on position, or if the car was running and the sensor was out, YES that can cause a check engine light.

I had the key in, but it was not running. I replaced the stock toyota denso filter with a purlator replacement unit. Looked free flowing, fabric vs paper like the stock one. So far no check engine light since I cleared the codes.

if you had the key in the on position then yes that could be why it came on... best to leave key out of ignition when disconecting stuff

If you are keeping the stock box you should have invested in a K&N.

It was the engine logo, not the engine needs service soon light. I change my oil between the dealer changes so its like changed at every 2500 miles..

So far has not come on. I was going to get a cold air, warm air, reusable filter, but I hear mixed results regarding fuel economy I just stick to the stock one. Infact I find removal of the snorkle lowers my fuel economy.
