25mpg would not be good enough for me I got 23mpg in my old 2WD '91 Explorer. I wanted something that got at least 35mpg.

What more could I ask for

Dude, given the amount of $ for the vehicle new($14-15K)... vs. other high milage vehicles in its class(Civic + hybrid, Prius, Insight, Aveo, etc.) ... the more MPG's you can squeeze out.. the better. Just wait till June/July when gas is aproaching $4 per gallon ... the more MPG's the better- then the more $$ stays in your pocket.

tC's average about 26mpgs (non-supercharged ones), xB's are right about 30-32mpgs ... but thats due to there poor aerodynamics.

I'm down with the aero thing . In reading the Insight tech forum, all cars could benifit from some kind of undercarrige lining that could improve mpg. Definitly lower the vehicle. What about a under engine brush guard- that circulates air into the engine bay to help cool things off + helps create down force( would this be a good aero thing to do ???)

More downforce means more drag, so that would decrease mileage, wouldn't it?

Ever see some of those really bad looking body kits that extend the rear bumper, if you call it that these days, way down and you see them go by and the wind coming underneath looks like it's trying to rip it off, it's just flopping back and forth from the wind. They might as well have a small parachute hanging off the back.

I just hit 3K Miles. I have seen as good as 33 Mpg. 90 % stop and go, 10% Freeway. Most of the time I shift below 3k RPM but I hop on it about 5 to 10 times per tank. I average 27 Mpg. I just changed the oil for the first time and used Mobile 1 Synthetic. 100 % stock at this time. I wouldn't mind seeing a little better mileage out of it, but I am content with it for now.

So am I the only one that's truly getting the sticker mpgs? About a 34-35 mpg avg.

I get around 30 in town - less during winter as I leave the defogger on (which runs the A/C). On the freeway, I get 40 - 45. On an uninterrupted highway (50 - 55 mph) in summer I've gotten 51!

FYI, its not recommended to go FULL synthetic till 15K+ miles (that is why Scion/Toyota gives you the first 3 oil changes complementary= approx. 15K miles). Reason being, the rings on the cylinder heads need to wear down on a new engine- seat properly. IF you put in synthetic previous to 15-20K miles , the cylinder heads will not have seated properly- and quite possibly will never seat properly since synthetic oil straight up bonds to all metal parts it come in contact to... and creates very-very little wear. I've heard of people doing this early in owning a new vehicle... then at 30-50K .. they are inefficently burning oil due to not breaking in the engine properly.

Per Mobil 1:
Question:
Changing to Synthetic Oil in a New Car
I have a new car. I have read not to change to a synthetic oil until there are some miles on the engine to give the rings a chance to seat. How long should I wait or how many miles should it be before I change to synthetic oil? Thank you for your time.
-- Edsel Heath, Jr., Richmond Hill, GA
Answer:
Modern vehicles can use Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil right from the factory. As evidence of this fact, more than 35 new car makes and models use Mobil 1 as factory fill. So there is no reason to wait to start enjoying the benefits of Mobil 1.

I am not to worried. The way I Ricky Race it around, the rings have got to be seated after 3k.

No I do. The worst I've got was 32 and the best has been 39, that comes out to 35.5mpg.

Glad someone else here is. I thought I was going crazy and getting too stupid to be able to calculate my MPG's correctly. I'm probably getting just a touch better than what I actually calculate due to my tire size.

I hear...now, this is JUST what I hear from people but, i've heard that if you leave your car turned off and get behind your car and start pushing, you may get infinity miles to the gallon! Yes...INFINITY! Try it! It might work!

Totally! And if you put it up on blocks in reverse, you can take mileage off your odometer!

I have read some wrong info in this topic and will correct it first before listing some MPG helpers.
1. It's safe to change over to Mobil 1 full synthetic at 1K miles not wait till 15K. And those freebie oil changes... forgetabout em. Why risk getting your Scion messed up having the oil changed at the dealer???

Tips for high mpgs.
1. inflate tires to atleast 32 psi.
2. stay away from wheels larger than 15 inches. They weigh too much and hurt mpgs.
3. use a K&N filter and remove the stock air snorkle it restricts airflow to the engine.
4. use NGK Irridium plugs gapped at .044. (this one mod jumped my mpgs by 3 alone)
5. other high mpg ers in the xB forum are using a Scan Guage. it helps them change the way they drive to get better mpgs. It gives you your average mpg as you drive so you can modify how you drive for better mileage.

I love the instantaneous MPG's on my Grand Cherokee. I can make it go from 4mpg to 99mpg. Not sustained of course. I hadn't looked at these add-ons before. I'd love one, but the price is already hurting my butt pad that I call a wallet without even ordering one. What other similar options are there on the market?

I'd have the dealer check it out if you are only getting 24/28 mpgs with an xA. It should be 34/38

For the TC I make sure I keep my tire pressure at around 41 PSI. From the factory they inflated to 36 but if you read the max pressure on the tire itself it's alot hire then that. I believe it around 44 PSI.
