just seems to be more comfortable for me to drive a manual and have a closer connection to the full controls of the car...

hope this aren't the kind of questions I can expect from the east coasters.

That is a preference question and its all about what you want. I prefer manual because:

*Like mystify said close connection with the vehicle
*Conrtol over shifting, I dont like where auto's shift. They tend to increa inetial forces on the pistons. I like keeping RPM low during cruse.
*5th gear, most autos are 4 gear (OD). I cant stand engine breaking at 70mph.
*Easier to keep the RPM's low when your running low on gas.
*Cost effecient, from purchase and when it comes time to rebuild/fix
*Less power loss (torque converter)
*Try to auto cross with an auto

edit

*Automatics are so damn boring. Put it in gear and drive....wheres the fun in that?

Default on the other hand...

...if you're sitting in traffic for 2 hours a day, it's nice to put it in drive and relax. I really hate driving a manual in stop-and-go traffic. Much more than I hate driving an auto at the track.

hella good point linex. Luckily enough traffic is minimal in south Jersey* so it dont really get into that. But your absoloutely right. Even a long drive after work where you wanna just put the biatch on autopilot and go... ya kinda cant...

good point!

One of my greatest pleasures in life is heel and toe shifting.

I had to get the manual xA.
