Calculate your savings on gas!
Here's how it works.
1) You take the current mileage on your vehicle and divide it by how many miles you get to the tank. You then take that number and multiply it by the current cost of gasoline.
2)Next you take the current mileage from your vehicle and divide it by how many miles you got by the tank in your previous car. Then you take that number and multiply it by the current cost of gasoline.
So you take your bottom number and subtract it from the top number and see how much you saved by buying this car!
I'll go first and we will see who saved the most money!
06 Scion XA with 6k miles now. I get approximately 300 miles to the tank.
So that is 6,000/300 = 20
Then It costs me $30 per tank, so that is 30 * 20 = $600
My old car was a 2001 cobra mustang. So if I drove 6,000 miles I would have gotten only 200 miles to the tank on premium gasoline. So it's 6,000/200 = 30
Now it would cost me about $50 dollars a tank for the cobra. So that is 50* 30 = $1500!!!
So that means over the brief time I have owned the car I have saved about $900 on gasoline alone. WOW.

Sweet!
I'm sure alot of people out there underestimate the cost of gas, and many figure "well, I gotta drive something.. and what ever I drive is going to take some kind of gas to get me down the road" , kinda attitude. Its true, but we get to make choices in life. Drive a 35+ mpg car... or say a 20mpg car. That 15mpg difference.. is a BIG difference , that can be like almost 200 less miles one can drive per full tank in choosing the 20 mpg car/truck!

yeah I know that is why I bought my car is for the great MPG. Now when you look at it closer it will really blow your mind. If I drive my car for 60,000 miles I will have saved $9,000 then if I had kept my cobra. That alone makes the investment worth while.
my old car had 23 gallon gas tank and used only 93 octain she hated the 87 barely got by on 89
at the time gas was around 2 dollars a gallon and it was 50 bucks a tank for one week now i can get by with 3 weeks and 30 dollars later...

just to think back to early 1999, when gas was .99 cents/gallon on the east-coast, and $1.25 out in the west!!! Ever since then, gas has been spiraling upwards. It will continue to be unstable through 2008. Well see what happens when Bush gets out of office.. if any steady changes in gas, or not!
Again, that was one of the major selling points w/ me buying my xA + the inital cost of getting into a new car. The hybrid thing myself + a friend just did our best to compute out, and the cost of a hybrid just did not add up($23K+ for either a Civic or Prius). I'm just doing my best right now to make my ride as aero as possible, light weight, well tuned(synthetics), so I can get the best mpg of any xA out there. I may be buying some light weight 14" wheels soon!

11,500 miles on the xA
I fill up at about 330 miles, I get 37mpg.
Recently it's been $27 a fillup (rounding up), so with that trend...
35 fillups at $27 a fillup would be $945
My old car was a hand-me-down 98 mazda protege my sister had totally trashed. It didn't run well at all and I had super bad luck in the car.
I put on 20,000 on the car before I got rid of it.
I filled up at 210 miles, I only got about 22 mpg.
Keeping with the price of gas ($2.90/gal), that would mean filling up the roughly 9.5 gallons would cost about $27-28 bucks, about the same as I got now.
BUT driving 11,500 on that car would be ~55 fillups!
That would come out to $1540 to go the same distance, achieving a savings of...
$595 on gas.
Hooray!

42200 miles on my xA, bought it with 26k.
I fill up at about 270-300 miles, when the light comes on. I get 26 - 31 mpg.
Around $26 to fill up. Between $1400 to $1600.
Previous car was a matrix which got about the same (although SCION has advertised better). No savings, actually probably lost money with the payment going up. Kinda ticked at Toyota for that one. I love the xA but the Matrix was bigger with about the same mpg. Major point of getting the xA was the advertised 30-38 mpg... I have a 110 round trip commute to work.

06 Scion XA with 8707 miles now. I get approximately 300 miles to the tank.
So that is 8707/300 = 29.02
Then It costs me $30 per tank, so that is 30 * 29.02 = $870.6
My old car was a 2001 cobra mustang. So if I drove 8707 miles I would have gotten only 200 miles to the tank on premium gasoline. So it's 8707/200 = 43.54
Now it would cost me about $50 dollars a tank for the cobra. So that is 50* 43.54 = 2177!!!!
So right now I have saved 1306.40 on gas alone. WOW.

I bought my xA in May and have kept a tally of mileage and savings against my previous vehicle all along. I was driving a Dodge Dakota. No matter what it got 19mpg. My alltime average on the xA at the moment is 34.5 mpg. the savings is around $800 so far. It would have been better but I had one or two tanks while at the ocean that were cruising Ocean Blvd. (about 31 mpg each) and I hit stop and go traffic most days in the evening. My goal since I bought it used was to make the payment with the savings. So far my payment of $150 (I had a down payment) has been covered to the tune of $125+ per month. $25 a month for a used vehicle isn't too bad. B
