Default CEL Questions as well has Exhaust

Well, I have a K&N Typhoon CAI, pretty long one too filter cone is right in front of the driver side tire, the other day I took the brackets holding the tip of the intake into the engine off and took the CAI off for a few seconds just to see the diameter of the intake itself, then I reinstalled it just the way it was before, when I turn the car on my CEL flashes 7 times and turns off for the duration of my ride until I restart the car, than it flashes the 7 times again and stops, I've reset the ECU a few times to no avail.

The car runs just fine ive driven it up and down the highway, interstate and regular roads and no problems are there, the only weird thing is on my last tank of gas I got 25 MPG which is extremely odd, but it is probably because of all the flooring I did while testing. I don't see how it could be the MAF the care just hit 10,000 miles not to long ago, think im at 10,300 now. Any help would be GREAT!

Also, I was wondering about Exhaust I'm looking for something afforable that will still yeild some performance results like 300 bucks or lower would be great.

Thanks!

the only performance adding exhaust would be a cat-back... ot sure if you can get one near 300 or not and I can't help with the cel either. Sorry.

I have a 2005 xA and also have a Typhoon intake and have taken the filter off plenty of times and have never encountered this...

Did the CEL go on after you installed it and started the car?

Have you tried disconnecting the battery? (If that’s part of resetting the CEL forgive me, I've never had to do that before)

Did you do this yourself or take it somewhere?
Well, either way I'd look at the instructions to make sure everything is in order...

As far as exhaust goes, I got the Magnaflow cat-back for $$366.99 from Jegs
Magnaflow xA cat-back

Now, you could go for a good universal muffler (pleas not a crappy fart-cannon) and then take it to a muffler shop and have them do a custom exhaust, might be cheaper... might not.

I've also got the DC headers and with all these have never seen any indicators go off and I did my intake around 12,000 miles and then my headers and exhaust (at the same time) at about 15,000.

I remember alot of Yaris (Echo in the US) drivers having this problem on my previous toyota forums when they installed a new oiled filter.

The problem was related to the MAF sensor (something Air Flow sensor.) I beleive this problem did NOT occur with dry filters, but only on oiled ones!

Apparently tiny oil particles would blow onto the air flow sensor and it would think that it was dirt and that air was not being filtered correctly so it would show a CEL!

solution was to actually take the MAF sensor and give it a cleaning!

not sure if this is at all relative but it was a popular case with the yaris/vitz/echo hatchback!

Over at http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ it seems quite a few have abandoned the oiled air filter and gone back to the throw-aways. I have cleaned MAF's on other vehicles with aerosol electrical contact cleaner, not sure if this is proper but it worked for me.

Default Hmm

Interesting well I did clean and oil my filter a while back odd that it would start doing this now after I remove and replace it, I will check out the MAF though, I also found it odd that the light just flashes 7 times and doesn't remain on for the duration of the ride all of my other cars just left the light on.

Exhausts: I found a GReddy SP2 cat-back system online for 275 bucks this is a great price for me, anyone know anything about the SP2? I Know greddy is a great company so it cant be horrible. Also is it true that aftermarket exhausts don't help our car because of some valve in our stock/TRD exhaust ive read a few posts saying that people actually experience a loss of hp

the loss is in low end power but is gained on the high end. Same is ture with the headers on the market, they're all 4-1 and those increase high end and the low end suffers.

and of course to counter act the loss of low end power i would suggest a lightened crank pulley...... believe me it was well worth the investment for me

How easy is a crank pulley to install, I personally do not have the means to pull the engine out to install headers so that is out for me at the momment till I find a shop here in Madison, WI that can do things like that. I would love to install headers, crank pulley and exhaust get some power increase without turning to turbos or SCs

Default Got It!

Well got it fixed pulled the MAF out gave it a few blasts with canned air, reset ecu, and light is gone yaaaa. Picked up the makings of a grounding kit today gonna have fun putting that in, while I was shopping around for wire I found a Magnaflow muffler, for 75.99 from my local autoparts store, anyone know anything about these I know the magnaflow cat-back is supposed to be a great product, this is a great price though, getting this I could also afford to get some new rims, any info on this product would be great!

Thanks!

Actually you can get the exhaust for $366.99 from Jeg's (as stated in my previous post)

And make sure when you oil it, not to oil it too much, that might be some peoples problem when it comes to this, less is more!

Yeah and if you're referring to ghostrider25 posts about the stock/TRD muffler... I don't know if it has a valve in it or not... but judging from his post on that and a previous one... the dude has mush for brains. I highly doubt the exhaust market would be as big as it is if stock was better...

actually you dont need to pull your motor to install a header or a crank pully, header is a bit of a pain only because of the space, but a crank pulley is only a matter of removing a belt, bolt, and the oem pulley then replace with after market pulley, oem bolt, then of course the belt.

Default Nice

I would definently be interested in a crank pulley then, can anyone reccomend one? perferably something that comes with instructions on how to install it because I am like a blind man trying to pick out his favorite porno when it comes to car installations. I put my CAI in myself in comparison how are the 2 installs CAI was alot of bolting and un bolting and jacking up the car, removing plastic and reaching in places I couldnt see to put the cone on.

Thanks!

See what happens when you get old, you can't read or see. I missed that completely

I have the Greddy sp2 exhaust. It is not a cat back like most ads say. It is just an axle back system. It is great. It has a deep, low tone but increases in volume( sounds really really good) as you lay down the pedal to the floor. Overall a 9 out of 10.
