Default Does anyone have a starting problem? 5 speed XA

I've had my XA a little more than 3 months now and all of the sudden when i turn the key I get nothing. (of course my foot is pressing the clutch) The lights flash on the dash and it seems like it is going to start, but then nothing. I turn the key back and the 2nd time it usually starts. This is intermittent sometimes on a cold start and sometimes it's happens when it was warmed up on short trips. Any ideas?

Nope what should I look for, if they are loose?

loose or build-up around the terminals... sure the clutch is depressed fully? It could be that maybe the pedal had been slammed b4 and now thw sensor is out of place or something... Hey chack your fuse box too and see if any of the related fuses are blown.

I've had a similar problem. Seems like the switch in the clutch is not adjusted right (or maybe my mat is getting in the way). If I press the clutch pedal harder, or wiggle it a bit, I hear a click and then it fires right up.

I don't think the battery is a problem. I'm like obsessed with keeping this car clean, but I will check. I'm sure the clutch is fully depressed but I was thinking it may be related to that. I'll be more aware every time I start it to try to narrow it down before I take it in to the dealer.

If you have floor mats....typically universal and not the scion mats, then they may be getting in the way a bit for the pedal to depress fully. I've had this a time of two on my xA. Shift the mat a bit where it's not riding up on the hump on the left side and bam no more problems

I went to Target and purchased some 3M hook-side of the velcro... stuck it to the back of the mats, and velcro'd them to the floor. This way, my mats don't slip up under the pedals, or get caught on the pedals.

The 3M stuff sticks WAY better than any generic stuff you get at Pep Boys, I highly recommend it.

Best part - I paid only 13 bucks total for my floormats. 7 bucks for the mats, and 6 bucks total for the velcro.

Good ideas thanks lots:

I paid only 13 bucks total for my floormats. 7 bucks for the mats, and 6 bucks total for the velcro - having the floormats not get stuck under the clutch pedal .... priceless
