Need help because I bought my 2005 xA but they did not give me the Keyless Entry Remote.

Is there any way to get one and code it or how do I get a Keyless Entry? Suggestions?

Just went through the same thing. I purchased my xA but they didn't give me the keyless remote. Unfortunately I made the mistake of buying 2 OEM Scion remotes from eBay. I couldn't program them because the dealer said that the security system I have is a aftermarket system that Toyota installs. So I checked under my steering column and found out that my security system is a KARR 2040A. I called KARR and they told me to purchase the keyless remotes from them for $58 each (I just purchased it from eBay for $40 for 2) and program them myself. I should be receiving them tomorrow and KARR told me that if I have any problems whatsoever with the programming, I can just take it a local toyota dealer and they'll pay for the expenses.

Actually, if you look under the steering column towards the right, you should see a black box with a light on it. Behind that towards the back more, you should find the brain(transmitter box). It should have the word KARR etched on it. On the back of that you should see the model # as well. You can use that model # to go on ebay and buy the controls. Also, search the forums and you'll find exact pictures of the alarm I'm talking about. good luck.

 

if you have any security system... you would be able to have one.

for the xA, i believe you can just really buy the keyless remote and program it without needing to have the Scion Security installed.

 

you need to RKE hardware for your car too

 

afaik, the xA had it built in... it was the xB that didn't (thus you had to get Scion Security)

or was it the other way around?... yeah.. it's one or the other.. i can't remember... but my gut instinct tells me it's the 2nd option..

xB's never had RKE, it was only the tC that had a factory RKE

 

yeah.. tC's came with factory RKE and came with the purchase of the car..

however it was the xB that had the capability to have a RKE by just purchasing the fob and programming it to the car without the need to install any extra stuff (Scion Security)

it was the xBs have the RKE hardware already built into the car.

yeah.. i had the two confused...

 

What ever Happened? Did you program your new key fob? Does it also unlock doors, or just arm/disarm the alarm?
