are you talking about the thing that covers the trunk? you hold on to the bar and shift if to the left or the right (forgot which way) and it will contract and you can pull it out. the metal bar is spring loaded in place. i hope thats what you're talking about

yeah, after 6 months of screwing with the bar everytime I went from seats up to seats down I finally just pulled the damn thing and tossed it in the closet.

If you look at each end of the bar, one of the plastic pieces has an arrow on it. Push in that direction. After 2 years, I just found that a few weeks ago.....imadumass

^lol, am I the only one who has owned import hatchbacks here, lol. Pretty standard on most of them. I like having it to cover up my nothingness that lays within my trunk space, or the junk I have thrown in there.

Hey...for the first two weeks I owned my car I didn't even know it came with one. I was buying accessories and saw it for sale and almost bought it. Good thing I went to buy groceries that same day and noticed that thing in the back.

My mom had to buy one for her Caliber separate, so I thought it was neat the xA came with one.

Getting that thing in/out while the back seats are up is like solving a puzzle -- it's too long to come straight out of the hatch, so you have to twist it around just right over the top of the rear seats.

What's it for? For hiding your valuables, which you probably shouldn't leave in the car anyways? I wonder how effective it is...

Not to cut anyone down for not knowing how to take that piece off, but it's one of the most simple parts on your car.
