Default Looking at an xa

Rather than fixing my mothers Saturn ion for my kid brother to use as his first car, we are going to just give him my del sol since we know it already works and I wouldn't get much for it anyway. I'm looking at new cars and thought the xa was a practical choice. That and I think it's adorable. I was asking about an xd in here earlier and think an xa would he a better financial decision. What should I be looking out for and how low do you think I could haggle one down. I'm willing to travel up to 100 miles for one from here (zip code 44702) and will likely go back to an automatic.

just to get you an idea when they were new at the dealerships they would go for 13k-15k so for a used one don't pay more then 9k if it has more then 60k miles (depending on the year and cond. of course)

When i got mine it had 44k on it and was i think 10,900 list. I paid around 9300 for it i believe. Make sure all the rattles etc are not there, and try your best to get a one owner if possible.

I also grabbed a prorated warranty from Toyota.

I'd recommend going on :

www.cars.com

www.autotrader.com

Do a search with in 250 miles.. or 500 miles, and see what people are asking for their xA's.

I'd recommend trying to get a 2006(auto in your case) , with no more then 40K miles if you can. Many people unload their cars after the factory warrenty(36K miles) is past, yet that potentially 11% or so of the actual life of an xA engine/tranny if you take care of it properly.

I'd think $7000(low) to $9000(high) is most likely going to be the range(for something clean/worth-wild), possibly a little more if they have an extended warrenty(orig. owner) that they can transfer onto you(new owner)

You can't go wrong with the xA if you are sure it will fit your needs! I wouldn't willingly give mine up, That is how much this car will grow on you! Be sure you take a good test drive, with the radio off. Some of the rattles are subtle and will drive you nuts!

I just bought an 05 xA auto trans with 44K miles on it for $6300. Needed tires, that's it. Only thing it didn't have that I wanted was cruise control and keyless entry........it has power locks, but no keyless????

Check craigslist as well, a lot of used dealers will put their cars up online. I wouldn't worry about mileage as much as vehicle condition, I bought a second 1gen xB in October w/ 90k on it, just did the 95k oil chance and there are no issues. If the interior's trashed or the Carfax shows problems, walk for something in better condition though.

No keyless on the xA? xB has it, thought it would be standard. Cruise didn't come until 06, and only as an accessory I think.

Thanks Vette, The car is perfect in every way in and out so I'm pretty happy with it. I wonder if it had keyless and the key FOB just got misplaced? I wonder if the dealer can tell me? And then sell me a new FOB?

I am thinking about an aftermarket cruise control as well...

Keyless wasn't standard for the xA, sorry. Maybe you got lucky and it has the Scion security installed though.

Look under the dimmer for the interior lighting, if there's a square that says Scion Security instead of just a blank panel square, you'll just need new fobs. Otherwise, try and order it. Dunno who has cruise, think it's aftermarket only.

If it ends up not having Scion security and it's not just a case of lost FOBs, I think I will opt to have an autostart installed at Best Buy that has the keyless entry built into that. Looks like it is about $200 installed in my neck of the woods.

Sounds good, but I've heard a lot of horror stories about Best Buy messing up installs doing things like chopping wiring harnesses instead of using adapters to save $10, scratching or outright drilling through dashes, and being a royal pain to get to fix things if they do get messed up. Obviously online you'll get more people ranting, the ones without a problem usually don't post, but it's something to consider. I'd suggest a local audio shop that specializes in car installs if you have one close by.

I actually have been thinking about doing the install myself. I have a very good mechanical ability, just not sure that I want to.

excellent pick up!!! I assume it was an automatic??

Yeah, this is the car I'll be recommending to my buddy.. who may be in the market for a "newer" car this spring/summer. Even something w/ 40-75K miles, for $6000-7500 is an excellent score (orig. owner if possible)!!!!!!

There is a sweet RS3 (auto) either in LA area, or SF(not sure which), but its on autotrader right now, with like 26K miles = $7000... something like that!!!!
