Default Making thr switch from manual to automatic?

Ive found I need an automatic tranny at times. I have such pain in my leg where I have multiple fractures and hate to trade the xa for another scion, yaris or prius and loose what I have already in it.

I know of course I will need the tranny, shifter and center dash.I dont mind having the third petal or no indicator on the dash. Just a means to work it and get around.

Think this is possible or should I hit up the scion dealers for apossible trade and hope they have a used xa or xbwhere a lot of the upgrades can be swapped over?

Thanks.

You should look into a trade Imo. youre going to take a loss, but It wont be as bad as replacing the whole tranny.

find an auto xa trade up and swap all your mods over. i'm sure they'd be willing to let you do that.

I would agree with the trade and suck up the loss. A couple things to consider - just a thought and I am sure someone out there knows for sure. A lot of times there is a cam difference between autos and sticks.

The other thing is that no dealer is going to agree to let you take a car and rip it apart to swap out parts, then give them back their car.

On a positive note, I have had sticks all my life. Got the Xa in an automatic and I really like it. You don't sacrifice gas mileage and I can enjoy sipping my coffee on my 75 mile round trip every day for work.

I have had many "high performance" cars in my life. It is beyond me why some dump money into this car - trying to make it into something it will never be. Enjoy the gas mileage and if you can - buy a fast toy for the weekends. But then,, I do understand hobbies. So,, dump away!!!!

honestly, keep the xa and buy a cheap auto. or you can lose. its a lose or spend more money situation. the clutch in the xa to me is like stepping in mud, so if you have a problem driving it you either are very sensitive or have an aftermarket clutch.

Buy a cheap auto honda or rolla or something keep the xa for days when your feeling good

what dealer really wants a modded xa most take off money for mods. so letting them get a stock setup will give you more.

Thanks for the input. I have a bid on a tacoma at an estate sale that is automatic with 4wd, however the epa says 15 and 18mpg. It maybe a great deal, but the gas would equal a monthly payment.

I have a lot of finessing that I normally did not do at my old location. I live at the bottom of a hill with 2 stop signs. I need to ride the clutch to pull out or use the parking brake and drive out since its on a hill. Merging from 95 to 64 requires shifting to to slow and get back up to speed. My old place, I had one stop sign and 1 light on a hill, once I was in 5th I never had to down shift and could roll out.

I really do not have that many mods. Most can be removed with the exception of the window tint that is professionally done with lifetime warranty and bumper aplique. The other mods are, scion floor mats, trunk mat, cargo cover, cruise control, bra, fogs, arm rest, alarm system, xb wheels, spoiler, petal covers, bass cannon, trd shifter. The non scion ones are hid lamps for the heads and fogs, front and rear sway bars, strut brace, prosport springs, urthene sway links, extra fan, curtis hitch, weapond r header, strup muffler and yamika bike rack. I have the oem springs, wheels, header and muffler.

I know for most cars the diff between auto and manual is the timming, axle lengths, sometimes a cooler and the linkage.

I don't see any good from trying to swap out trannys...it would just cause more problems down the road. If you ever wanted to sell or trade you wouldn't get anything. Besides, the price would be outrageous!

I can understand your pain, I'd see about getting a local dealer to find you an auto to trade for. Take out what you can, kiss the rest goodbye and start thinking of new upgrades for the new xA...

Good luck, my friend!

I may have to shop around. I want 10-12 grand for my car if I trade. I may look at the xd, yaris or even prius. I got about 8 grand to throw down with the deal.

I am still awaiting the tacoma, however its one big vehicle and I am just worried about the fuel economy. I could use 1 1/2 to 2 gallons of gas a day with it to get back and forth to work.

The storm that hit VA made my aches and pains act up, I would of driven the automatic all last week. Felt good Saturday afternoon. Its amazing how all the truck-ups alert you to any storms well before the sky turns dark. Ankle, knee, hip, shin pain.

go test drive an automatic xa, i drive my gf's, i can't stand how slow it is away from a stop. makes pulling out of a driveway making a left turn in traffic a nightmare because you just have no power to shoot out and get up to speed before cross traffic hits you.

well, me and my gf drove her xa to scion exposed last year since my tc was in the shop for a tranny overhaul after a bad lsd installation, and on the way home, we stopped for gas and getting ready to leave, we had to do a left turn out of the gas station on a two lane road with a 50 mph speed limit, so i was just waiting and waiting and waiting because i just had zero confidence in being able to floor it and make it up to speed before an oncoming car cremes us. made me really appreciate the tc.

Dont get me wrong, the xa is no crotch rocket. I can do 0-40 in like 3 seconds with the muffler and header and thats good enough for me to cross 4 lanes of traffic to get out of the road i live on. Before I had to wait and go when it was clear, now I can pull out and the cars are just a few feet farther along the road than when I pulled out.

I rented a yaris sedan and man, it raced through the gears, however it refused to upshift once it reached od unless you came to a complete stop. The 3 door hatch back test drive drove as it should, I just need 4 doors now as my parents taxi.

THe prius was similar to my 240d, SLOW. It had a very dead petal and it can take a few seconds after slamming the petal to the floor before it decided to give 100% gas and 100% electric.

I use to work for a company that sold telecommunications trucks to pr, it takes 2 weeks to get there. THey would ship the service truck over, then a day before it arrives have the techs fly out to service the telephone trucks.

I agree on a test drive of the auto tranny on an Xa or Xd.
