Noise when in Neutral with engine running at -10 degrees F.
I recently noticed a new sound of what I believe must be the clutch slipping. In the mornings when it is absurdly cold (North Dakota), the sound appears after starting the car in the morning and letting the clutch out in neutral. It sounds like a whirring sound. It sounds like someone is spinning the lid of a kettle. Does anyone have thoughts as to what it is?
It sounds like throw-out bearing noise. Does it go away when you depress the clutch pedal? If so, that's usually what it is. That's not to say that anything is really wrong with it though. It might just be the crazy low temps.
-10 degrees?.....Yikes!
