Default Prospective Buyer Here! convince me :)

Hi folks,

Well here's the deal, I have been tempted to purchase a 2006 xA.
I'm in the market for a small hatch and cannot find one single negative review!

I mean other than nitpicky things of course like no cruise control and no armrest. In fact those are the only complaints I'm seeing anywhere!
And after my research took me to ScionLife.com I discovered some slick mods to remedy that and then some. I've gotten totally sucked in here
although it does look like it may be closer to the deserted level lately. I signed up just now because I'm thinking this car looks like a winner!

Oh one other thing, this one i'm looking at has got a SALVAGE TITLE

So now I may be in trouble here guys. I'm asking myself, how badly do I want this car?? The private craigslister selling it says he has pictures and receipts for repairs to the damage, which he said was minimal. Call me crazy, part of me isn't absolutely convinced he's being 100% honest. Naturally I'll be meeting up with him soon to check the goods and get a BS reading in person. Still have to figure out what kind of financing and insurance would even be possible here in CA.

In the meantime I have a request for members reading this thread:
How bad do I want this car? Will you help me out on this? I've never taken out a loan to pay for a car before and while this fits the price and profile I have in mind, I can't help but be leary. Have any of you dealt with a salvage title purchase? I'd like to own one and now it seems this is the only one available for purchase near me. Quite a pickle since I have been charmed enough to seriously consider a Scion xA. Would you go for it if it checks out? How to check it out properly.. All responses welcome and thanks for having me here at scionlife.com

How much is seller asking? You can also take a mechanic with you to check it out. The xA and xB share the same motor, as the owner of an xB I love the gas mileage. You can always Carfax it.

I would never buy a car that has a salvage or rebuild title. If you want an ax just keep looking. Also I don't think you can get a loan for a salvage title but not sure.

Thumbs up

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.

The seller of the salvage one is asking 6400. That's right at blue book with 83k miles,
but yeah as I've thought more about it I don't think it's worth the headache even if the car is tops.

Good news is I did happen to find another couple ads posted on craigslist just this past week!
Turns out it does pay to stare into that abyss of a website for days on end.

I found a dark grey '05 xA w/ 133k miles, a blue '06 w/ 98k mi and a silver '06, unknown miles..
for 5500, 5600, and 5900 respectively. Hoping the silver has lower miles for the higher price. It's all a crap shoot though.

But yeah it's looking like I can get one after all for less money with less problems
So turns out it probably wasn't just a waste of server space for me to sign up here! lol

I think you should keep looking and be patient. I found a one-owner 06 xA w/ less than 10k miles (I signed the title when it hit 9,999 ) clean title on eBay about 4 months ago for $6500. I did have to drive 600 miles to buy it, but it was well worth it. Great little car this is!

Best advice out there! There are a lot of salvage titles on these cars because the parts are cheap and the car is easy to fix so most people just rebuild it rather than junking it. This is a Toyota we are talking about, bulletproof if properly maintained. I once saw an '04 for $3500 with 128k miles plus clean title so cheaper and nicer options come to those who wait.
