Default Rodents in Ventilation

So check this out.

I just returned from a 3 month deployment in the pacific and right before I left, I parked my xA in "deployed parking" which is basically a large dirt lot on base.

The night I got back, I tried to turn on my heaters and fans to defrost the window and nothing worked. I could hear a click but the fan would not start. I took it into the dealership today and they told me that rodents built a nest in the ventilation system and it essentially clogged the fans up and shorted out a portion of the electrical system.

So they need to tear out the entire front dash to clean everything out, replace the heater blower and ensure nothing else is shorted out. I'm without my xA for a few days and it is going to cost me ~$950. What luck. I wish I would of known of this. Apparently, the service guy says that they have seen multiple cases of this during the winter. They are going to install a filter screen that will prevent this from happening in the future. I am curious as to why the car didn't come with this in the first place.

:^(

Just thought I'd share...

Yeah... Scion went cheap to start no filter there, most folks that found this out went down to home depot and bought something to cut up and put in there. That totally sucks that the lil bastards went and made your car their home

your lucky it was just the ventilation system. my buddy found out the hard way not to keep grass seed and bird seed in his garage when his car didnt start (chevy). Mice made a nest inside his air filter and filled it with grass seed, birdseed, acorns...etc. When he fired up the car .... it all sucked in the engine.

Toast.

i knew someone that had a miata they said that dryer sheets worked for some reason to keep out the mice. it also allowed for the car to have a fresh smell vs. using moth *****. tends to be an issue with vehicles that aren't driven offten. your lucky they didn't chew your wireing.

Thanks for serving our country.

Yeah, rodents love duct work. You can get a filter at auto zone. I got 2 for 10 bucks. Its caught a lot of leaves, pine straw and dust/dirt.

Yeah everything works just like new now. It shouldn't happen again. The screens are installed to block any creatures from coming in. Lesson learned.
