Question 2010 XB problems with rodents under hood

Shocked to discover today rodents are eating away wire covering on upstream oxygen sensor. Does whole part need to be replaced or can wire be replaced? Also wondering if this is common and any successful solutions out there? No garage and live in desert area, near Superstition Mts. thanks

Haha, nice. You live in the north Mesa area then. Yeah, I'd replace the the whole sensor. They aren't that expensive, and I'd hate to try and splice a new wire into an old sensor.

OK, sounds like we need to get a complete new oxygen sensor. Hope that the rodent doesn't do a repeat performance.

Really strange! My mechanic says keeping hood open will stop pack rats from trying to build nests under hood. TIme will tell, I guess.

right up to the point where the wind rips the hood off or smashes it into the windsheild...or just get some rat traps for at night

I keep a tray of poison rat pellets underneath the engine bay.
