Default Sciondeck with ipod dock - can it support other MP3 players?

I have a tC with an ipod dock and i found another MP3 player with the same connection, will the deck read that one also or does it have to be an Apple Ipod?

I founda few at wallmart with the same dock port as the Ipod...

Just a question

What did you find that uses apple's goofy port?

Try it and find out... better yet try it with something you care less about and find out.

If it were me, I'd just use the AUX input.

BTW, the deck isn't tC specific. All Scions have the same head units.

And why are you posting in the xA forum, anyway?

The iPod kit is iPod specific, but it also has a mini 1/8" jack that anything can use.
The iPod dock cable is iPod specific.

It might be Ipod specific but its not connection specific.... thats my question.,... Ipod is not the only MP3 player with the same connection port.

I think you are thinking about the mini jack that is the headphone style, the iPod dock connector is proprietary to apple.

That's Apple's proprietary connection.
Sorry.
The only other port is the 1/8" mini jack.
Re-read.
If you don't get it, don't tell us we don't know what we're saying - we do.

So you're saying you managed to find an MP3 player that uses the same port that's found on the bottom of the iPod? And to be clear, we're talking about the 1" wide, slim connection that you plug into when you want to transfer music to/from your iPod and not the 1/8" headphone jack on top of the iPod. If that's the case, I'm going to say that it will not work. The iPod-specific input is designed to work with the menu/OS of an Apple iPod and nothing else, even if it uses the same connector.

Just do what everyone else on here does (myself included) and hook up your MP3 player via the headphone jack and the AUX input on the stereo. You'll be able to connect anything (MP3 player, portable DVD player, etc) and just use one cable. The only downside is that you'll need a separate cable to charge the device...
