Default Should I clearcoat my new car?

Just wondering if you all think it would be prudent to put a clearcoat on my car when it arrives? I've read about how cruddy the paint is on these and would rather not have to worry about it. I figured if I slap a clearcoat or two on it right away, maybe I can avoid all that chipping nonsense. Any other ideas? Would this not be worth it? Since I'm getting it painted should I go all out and just paint this bad boy perriwinkle or something? I need help. I find it hard to think for myself. Waiting must eat brain cells or something..... T-MINUS 4 WEEKS AND COUNTING TILL MY XA ARRIVES... wanna count down with me?

Have you looked into how much it would cost to have additional coats of clearcoat added?

My guess is that it would not be cheap to have a quality job done.

I think subcode from this forum uses stickercity clearbra protection on his car to protect his paint, ask him how that worked out, might save you some money

I say if you can afford it, do it. 3M makes a clear bra paint protector, you might look into that.

Clearcoats shouldnt be too expensive. Tell them to do the outside only. They only have to scuff it up a bit, and then shoot it. I had a complete paint job for 1200, and that was with bodywork. So I bet you'll spend like 300 or less.

I would look into the clear vinyl protection kits like Xavier suggested.

I got some "Proguard" treatment from Toyota, sposed to guarantee the paint for the life of the vehicle. I dunno too much about it but they said it's a teflon coating?

If you do get it done, I would recommend not looking for the cheapest place. Visit several places and look at some of their work on paint jobs. You would be taking a brand new paint job to have work done on it. I wouldn't go for the cheapest shop because you'll end up with a car that looks worse than when you started.

the clear coat is not the expensive part. its the labor and prep work that gets costly. especially when you take it to a very qualitfied place

The prep work isnt going to be all that much. All they are going to do is wetsand it and then clean it up and get it dry, put it in the booth, and spray it. After they spray it, they will wetsand it again if you want another coat, or they will wetsand it if you had any orange peel.
