Went to pep boys yesterday to buy some Sylvania SilverStar headlight bulbs, bought the super white "HID look" bulbs, but they said the size "9003" works for our xA's... they are putting them in for me today (since I have no knowledge about this stuff myself :oops: ) because their installer wasn't in last night. I'm curious, because I heard the right bulb size is H4, but the guy told me 9003 when he looked it up.... I'm going later on to get them put in... just wondering what the difference is between 9003's and H4's....

 

I had the same problem...come to find out..the manual says HB2 which is the same thing as a 9003 which is the same thing as an H4...they are all the same...dont know why, but they are

theres a big difference between the h4s and the 9004s mainly in design. h4s are smaller and have a wire that connects i think the + and the metal base of the light connects too the frame. the 9004 is plastic and slids in with another piece of the car that slides in after turns and locks it in then you plug in the wireing harness. plus the bulbs themselves are different in size. the 9004 is much bigger

 

btw, ive only seen H4s on benzes golfs bmws. 9004s have both high and low beam. i think the H4 is a low beam only..... at least this is what i can remember. i work at napa and work with those bulb types

 

the bulb thats being talked about is a 9003, not 9004.... guy told me 9003 is the one i needed and thats what i got put in

 

You got the right ones. I put SilverStar 9003STs in my xA last week. Awesome bulbs. Now you will notice that the SilverStars are so white, they make your parking lights (the little bulbs on the inside corner of the headlight assembly) look yellow. I just upgraded those as well to match the headlights. Read this post:

No, they are a different type of bulb. I got these: http://www.prolightstar.com/access_bulb/piaa19172.html from a local performace shop for $15 and they look great. They now macth the SilverStars. You may want to read through this thread:
