Default Is there a raised VIN suitable for making a tracing?

I can only find the VIN on the door frame--which is on a sticker. I need to make a tracing of the VIN (pencil rubbing) to transfer my reg from Jersey to PA. This probably is a very stupid question...but I don't know where else to look. I thought it was usually somewhere on the dash.

This is a 2004 XA.

Thanks for any help, Nina

They use to have a metal plate on the dash of most cars--but I don't see one. There are stickers on the back hatch and on each of the inside of the front fenders--but nothing that looks traceable. How about picture??

That's what I'm seeing too. I just called the dealer and they claim it's on the dash--I saw nothing.

If you use a picture, you have to get an inspector to sign it and notarize or some such pain in the ___...

Thanks for your help--I'll look again.

This is directly from the Owner's Manual:

It's there on mine (required to be in that location BY FEDERAL LAW) but I don't think it is even possible to get to it to make a rubbing.

Good luck!

All you have to do is wait until your windshield breaks and you can make a tracing. Should only take a month or two for that to happen LOL.

Windshield break! Oh no...is that common? I drive A LOT, approx 140 miles per day...I will cry like a girl if that happens. But, you're right, would make much easier to get that tracing.
