Default Thinking about getting a 2nd xA

We're thinking about trading my wifes '04 Explorer in on a another xA, probably a black one. She's never really liked the '04. She actually likes my old '91 Explorer better than her '04 and the '91 sits most of the time since I got the xA. My son will probably drive the A and she'll drive the '91. Is it a good time to buy one or would you wait until the replacement? If it looks anything like what I've seen so far I think the xA is the way to go. Are we crazy for buying two?

Well, they stopped making the xA at the end of last month, so whatever you find at the dealer is all they are going to have.

Grateful, Go for it! As you know, xA production ended last month,so most dealers still have a good inventory, but as time passes your selection will be more limited. Your info shows you're from Central, N.C. By that do you mean the triangle? Where did you buy your current xA?

I bought my current xA in Charlotte. Right all the dealers have way more than they did when I bought mine. I guess I should have said southern Piedmont on my info.

a 91 explorer with 228k miles??? can I ask what you do to keep it running that long? Oh, and as for the new models... if you can wait till Feb the new models will be revealed at some auto show. So keep track of your dealer's inventory till then :D

Not much of anything but routine maintenance. The only semi-major repair it's had was a intake manifold gasket, one starter, couple of thermostats, fuel pressure regulator and that's about it. It also gets gets a consistent 23mpg on the highway, it's 2WD. I wish the '04 was as good a vehicle.

I just bought my 06 XA yesterday and drove it home. I wanted a black one with a 5 speed and side air bags. It took a few calls and a two week wait for it to come in. It was well worth it, this car is a real pleasure to drive around. I've got 350 miles on it so far and I'm loving it more every time I drive it :D

I thought about waiting untill the new model is anounced but decided against it for a couple reasons. One I really like the current XA and if I waited untill the new one is announced I might have a harder time finding a new current XA equiped like I wanted. I also really like the center mounted gauges over gauges in front of the steering wheel, I like the fact that I don't have to look through the wheel to see the speedo and my arm doesn't block the gauges then I'm holding the wheel at the top. I also like small cars and I heard rumors that the new XD will be a little bigger. Overall I decided that since I really like the current one I would just go for it. I really doubt that the new XD will be so much better that I would want to trade my XA in on it. I guess we will see.

Welcome hadoka... gret explaination!!! The new xD will be known in a few days or weeks, if your dealer has a good supply of xA's I'd take the chance and wait til I saw the D. Then, they might want to "help" get rid of the leftover A's....

Well it looks like the pictures of the new XD are out! (see pic below). Everyone will have to judge for themselves but based on the picture I'm real glad that I bought a 06 XA while they are still available!

The new XD looks to boxy and bland for my taste. The front end is terrible, way to square and it looks Huge! It lost all the lines that I think make the XA look so great. The new XD kinda blends in with any of the other new cars to me.

I've only owned my XA for a week now but I'm having a blast driving it around, and loving it more every day!!

New XD,

"Old School" XA,

Agreed. The new xD just doesn't look near as good. I'm sure it is a better car in other ways (similar gas mileage, more power, better interior), but I wanted a car that looked good (for an econobox). Otherwise I would have bought the Honda Fit.

No haven't bought one yet mainly because the '04 Explorer is nearly a worthless piece of American iron when you try to trade it in. Too much negative equity, sad when a 32K vehicle that's less than 3 years old is worth 12K and it doesn't have a scratch on it. Gonna have to keep it until it's worn out, paid for or someone... well we won't go there. If I did do something it sure wouldn't be the '08 xD that's for sure.
