Default Tires, pads or fluid

Hey all,

I've been driving my xA rather spirited lately. It has gotten to the point where I lose my brakes. I think I'm boiling my fluid!

So, I'm not trying to spend too much money here. But what would you recommend? I basically need my brakes to. well, work!!

Should I replace the OEM tires with some better tires? Get some pads like the Hawk HPS or some Motul RBF600?

What would be the best route to go with 1st?

It's a pretty silly question to ask! Safety is ALWAYS 1st. The brake pads before tires...

Well, the peddle is mush and the braking power is all but gone.

I hear tire's will make a significant improvement. But I also heard brake fluid can solve this. Something like Motul RBF600.

But I've heard better tire's will be a better place to start?

if the pedal is mush than that may be a sign for brakes. changine the pads is a way to go! more aggressive pad. ceramic pads offer even less fade when hot. steel braided brake lines give a more "direct feel". changing the brake fluid to a fluid that has higher resistance to boiling due to overheating. maybe want to fabricate brake air ducts??? keep those rotors nice and kool dont get me wrong tho, tires can shave some serious distance off of your 60-0 mph distance

Listen to foxtrot.
Start with the brakes, then worry about the tiers.
Since you say it's the pedal, you are overdriving your brake system, if you were locking up the tires, it would be your choice of rubber...

get StopTech Axxis ULT ceramic pads. You WILL feel the brakes respond sooner. Just a simple search on google $58.89 at http://www.buybrakes.com/store/45-08220U

Good idea to check for over heating at all 4 wheels when you get that brake fade in case you are cooking the rotors and bearings too!

on my xA i was having a lot of braking problems too. i switched my rotors AND brake pads at the same time. now i'm running "chamfer drilled" and slotted rotors, with axxis metal master pads. the car seems to stop in about half the distance now. and it takes care of the serious understeer problem when i go through the mountain roads at 75-90. yeah, i already know..."slow down"

Not to forget the obvious but do you have a lot of brake dust on your wheels - can you SEE your brake pads to check if they are totally worn. Brake fluid will not "boil" if the pads are in good condition unless you are racing in a hot desert and braking down mountains. Make sure you don't have dragging brakes and pre-heating them that way also. I also wonder what your gas mileage is with that much braking activity. GET OUT AND LOOK AT THE BRAKES before you kill yourself or someone else - ya know!
