Towing with an Xa
Here's my update:
Just came from the track (Texas World Speedway) 90mi. away. The xA was able to haul everything I had listed on my other posts with no problem. I'm dead tired so I'll post later-on what I've noticed while trailering. I sent Jeff1960 a pic of my set-up, he might be able to post it here so you guys can see it.
Have a nice evening.
PS-Take into consideration that I live in the greater Houston area, where it's mostly flat highways/freeways, so if you will be trailering in hilly/mountainous roads, the car might have a hard time hauling the load. I just thought I'd throw that in there since some of you guys might live in those type of areas.

The biggest thing that I noticed when pulling the trailer was the fuel consumption. It is expected, having that much load on the vehicle. I usually get 32mpg., got 26mpg. yesterday cruising between 60-75mph.. (17in.x7 rims 215/40/17, 5spd. manual)
What I was not expecting was the ability of the xA to overtake other cars on the freeway at 70mph.. I did not, even once, had to downshift to get around other cars.
Stability was not even an issue, as the handling barely changed (in regular, non aggressive driving ;)), considering more weight was on the rear.
Good luck to you guys, and I hope you get the most out of your xA's as I have.
BTW-My xA is bonestock except for the rims

So for those who have towed with xAs, what is the total weight you've towed--trailer and cargo?
I'm another one who wants to tow a little sailboat with my xA, and I need to know how much boat I can get away with towing before I go buy the Queen Mary and try to hitch it up.
Thanks.

I got the hitch to not only beef up the rear end, but to also carry a wheelchair carrier and or storage rack or bike rack. I think the bike rack even if not use would help ease any damage from being rear ended.
Anyway, just be careful and allow extra room to accelerate, brake with a load and ongrades you may have to just reduce to a slower speed.
