Well Now I Did It....
Well, as you guys and gals know I quite often talked about me getting a xB or a tC as second car. Today, I decided to check out current for sale of a '06 xA RS 3.0 so I went and looked at it for least five minutes. Part of me thought, "Buy me now" over and over then I saw Classic Silver tC and he said the same thing. So I quickly walked out and drove around thinking it through wondering the good and the bad. I went home and said "Why not." Went back wearing much neater clothes and with my current pay stubs. Test drove the tC and decided to apply for it...Well everyone accepted me but they all said "You have to get rid of the xA order for you to accept our loan." But the payments range around 300 ish and my salesperson stated I'm far better off getting something that is more money like Camry or RAV4 if I decided to trade in the xA.
Now I don't know what to do??? lol These loan offers don't expire until 30 days. So I don't know. They did that so I couldn't hurt myself in the long run but I thought of everything before walking in today. I've been thinking about getting two cars for the past five months so I thought of EVERYTHING.

If you were accepted for a loan but the dealer told you that you have to trade in the xA anyways, doesn't that defeat the purpose of saying you've been accepted for a loan for a second car? If you're accepted, you're under no obligation to trade the xA. If you're making payments on the xA and decide to get a second car, the only danger would be in trying to get a loan in the first place but if you're really accepted for the loan does it matter? I guess it depends on whether you're making payments on the xA now.
I just got my girlfriend a new Yaris a few months ago -- technically I co-signed the loan but for the most part it's riding on my credit. Trading my xA wasn't an option, and the dealer I went to out here didn't give me any lip about it. If the dealer is trying to get you to trade your car, it's cause they want to get more money out of you; thus the reason they are trying to get you into a Camry or RAV4.
I got my xA from Safro back when I lived in Milwaukee. Have you checked them out? They were really good to me, but then again I made nice with the salespeople over the course of a few months

Looks like they want to screw you on the trade in for your XA. Always do the loan and the trade in as seperate deals. I wouldnt personally trade the xA at all, you will get a much better deal selling it privately. Also where does the sales person get off telling you to buy something more expensive and that will be better for you? better for him more likely.
If i were you, i would get my loan approved first outside the dealership, ie your bank, credit union, or even online like eloan. let them qualifiy you for the amount of the TC that you want. its pure pricing, so it wont varry after you get approved. Then go to the dealership with your financing all set without them. That will keep some of their BS to a minimum. Also check around, in my area, different toyota dealerships had different base prices for the scions, even as much as $700. Good luck!

Well the tC I test drove was 17,500-ish which was too much out of my price range in the first place. But if I do this; I want a base model with price tag of 16,000-ish. Anyway, I can understand about me buying something bigger and better for the same monthly payments. I have to worry about my negitive amount payoff if I trade my xA. I know there's dealership who could make a killing on my xA if they resale it.
Scary thing is; I kind of want to get rid of the xA. I know its a nice car but I hate driving around my dog in it. I want something that is much more since I earn it. I actually like the idea of a RAV4 since my dog would fit better in it and I can't do stupid crap that I do in the xA (Some days I push my little xA; little too much. Thinking it can handle sharp turns at 50 not 25.) I think I would limit my driving with a SUV than my xA.
I do have a funny story for you guys...
Tonight I decided to check out my local Toyota dealership in town after open hours. So I get out and I walk towards the Scion area while these two other girls walk toward the Corollas. We walk around the cars and all of sudden we saw a brand new RAV4 have a wooden board on the front windshield. So I saw the girls walk towards it and I over heard "Someone left the keys outside." So I walk over there seeing this board had all the dealership's Toyota keys sitting on it. These girls went up to me and asked what should we do. I said "Call the cops;" so they did. I walked around keeping eye on them while they are watching me. I kept looking at the cars while watching the girls until the cops came.

That would be Gentile in Racine. Someone must not wanted their job anymore, lol
If you want to own an xA and a Tc, I suggest doing what someone else did and get approved for the loan somewhere besides the Toyota dealer ahead of time.
If you don't like carrying your dog around in the xA, I can't imagine you would like carrying it around in the Tc either.
Is the dealer suggesting buying a RAV4 (and trading in the xA) instead of buying the Tc (and keeping the xA). Otherwise, I can't see how he is saying you would be better off. The RAV4 is going to cost you alot more than a Tc. They base price over $20,000, and I doubt you can get a really good deal on them. I think the sales guy is just trying to squeeze as much profit out of you as he can.
My suggestion is to put alot of thought in what you want. You have a 2006 xA. I really can't understand why you would want to trade it in already. You must have bought it for some reason. Your wasting alot of money if you buy new cars and sell them in a year. What are the reasons you want two cars? Is the xA not meeting some need? If you need more space, then the Tc is probably not the answer. The RAV4 might be a good car for you. You are getting more space, a nicer interior, and probably a little more acceleration. However, you are paying alot more, getting worse gas mileage, and giving up alot in the "fun to drive" area. Also, the RAV4 is just another SUV. The xA has alot more unique look.
Whatever you do, make sure you really know what you want. Don't let the sales guy push you in a direction that doesn't make sense. Don't make an impulse buy. If you trade in the xA this soon, then you shouldn't have bought it in the first place. Don't make the same mistake again. It is just too costly to buy cars and trade them in a year or two later. Make sure whatever you do is likely to be something you'll still want to be driving in 5 or more years.

Here's the thing; I applied for these loans with zero down. The way how the dealership does things; you fill out electronic application and they decided to send it to what bank. I never stated to trade in the xA. When they accepted me all the guidelines state "Must trade in current TMCC vehicle" & "Copies of current pay stubs." I didn't go to the typical dealership; I went back to Carmax again. Which they straight out stated to me "If you went to a regular dealership. You would of left with the keys long time ago." And then they also stated; "Toyota Financial Services are worried if they hand over two set of keys to me. That I would dig myself a hole and I would never go back buying Toyotas." I did apply with a Milwaukee area bank for second car. If they accepted me; I'm going to sit down and think very hard with all my bills in front of me with insurance quote numbers in front of me. Do the math completely where the pennies go and if I have more positive. I'm going to sleep on it longer and think about it much harder. Another factor is, I'm thinking of checking out all Toyota dealerships in SE Wisconsin and NE Illinois...and the first tC Special Edition (the tC is completely plain since it's 15-16 grand) I see for sale I'm buying it! I just want something very plain and basic. I also thought of getting manual xB
I never stated I hated my car. I brought it when I was making minimal wage and at the time xA was the best choice. Now, I feel like if I'm financially able to get something bigger and I can feel better about the car going to someone who could enjoy it more than me. I have the extra money to get much larger payment while someone like a college student or older couple living on pennies would enjoy it better and also their checkbooks. Since the gas prices are still high; people are dying to get hold of my car. I feel like this could be best time to trade in before it goes into 6,000 value range. If someone went up to me and asked to buy my car off of me...I would do it. But I would like to know who is driving it after me.
