I get about 27-29mpg...I dunno why some of you are saying that isn't normal. I'm pretty sure that's about average for our cars with the new MPG. Although, I do wish it did get better mileage.

That would be "normal" if you had 18" or larger wheels and you drove it like you stole it every time you drove.
Normal is closer to 30-31 from what I've read over the last 4 years.

Nope. 27-29 falls right in the current EPA estimates for our cars. 27/35 are the new EPA MPG. So, I dunno why you say getting 29mpg is having "big problems". And if you still don't believe me... http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/calcu...umn=1&id=21777

EPA estimates don't mean squat and has nothing to do with real world averages. Spend some time on here and see for yourself.

Epa is just an estimate based on a track to simulate city, highway driving. Its also a controlled environment.

Driving for economy and safety do not necessarly go hand in hand and to date, worse fuel economy for me is 32, highest 46.

Just do a search for hypermiling for gas saving driving tips.

just to update, I actually got 31 MPG with my last tank with my A/T xA. which seems pretty good for freezing weather and winter gas.
so its not as bad as I thought.

That's about right for this time of the year considering the crappy gas.

I've never got less than 32mpg around town or less than 37 on the highway and I'm not talking about one tank averages. I usually get 39 on the highway running 67-68mph.

Last fill up I went 211 miles and filled up with 6 gallons roughly. Thats 35mpg. I let it idle at a hardees for breakfast in freezing weather for heat must of been 15 minutes in line. Then left it at a tint shop, who knows what they did with it. After the tint shop had to drive with ac and heat on to keep the windows from fogging with the folks in the back, likewise had to idle it in the parking lot of a wendys to keep the windows clear and the folks comfortable as they wanted to eat in the car.

Not bad, but I rented a new corolla half a day looking at houses like I have done with my car and man, I went 136 miles on 6 gallons or half a tank according to the meter. Thats like 21 mpg. I did not see an od button and left it in Drive. I also rented a jeep liverty and man it too got 20mpg doing the same thing, but at least it was like a hummer vs weenie econo car that is expected to get twice the fuel economy. Man it shifted well and had some power.

My best is maybe 31 mostly in the city & 34 on the highway

both my better half's XA & mine are getting below 30 now.

I got just about 35 MPG on my way back from North Carolina last week running at 70-75 MPH. I was rather impressed. 370 miles on 10.6 gallons.

I haven't seen mileage over 32 MPG for some time now.

Is there any way to actually ____ up something to the xA's computer to estimate the MPG? And with 18's?

Scangauge II will plug right into the OBDII plug.

As long as the overall diameter of your tires isn't any different from stock, you're fine.

Wheel size has nothing to do with tire size, unless you're rocking wheels bigger than the overall diameter of a stock tire.

Your 215/35R18's are .8% bigger than stock.

Basically just multiply your total miles per tank by .008, add to your total miles, and divide by the gallons put in.

Word!
15" wheel size works great on the xA (or possibly 16"). Bigger isn't always better, there are a few draw backs when you start going big(17"+).

ditto!

the 17's I took off weighed 20lbs/ea

the 15's I put on weigh 10lbs ea.

besides, they look cool. The 225/50's fill out the fenderwells without looking silly.

I've heard the crappy mileage blamed on winter gas.

Wow..... 225's , thats a very wide 15" tire you got there = more surface contact/patch area = LESS MPG = yet gives you better cornering ability(for the most part- during DRY conditions). Also, the wider the tire you go with, typically is also a heavier tire(ie. 185/65 tire should be lighter then a 225/50 tire). A narrower tire(185 or 195 ) is optimal for winter/wet weather driving.

If you truely want to increase your MPG, I'd suggest going w/ a 195 (great compromise between still getting great MPG , yet is stockier then what comes stock. A 195/60/15 tire can be had for fairly inexpensive = $60-65.

Be safe .... yet be efficient.

PS... Ditto what was said about EPA info. For all of those w/ ScanGuage 2's (and anyone considering one) - monitor that puppy, your driving style will change = you'll be getting better MPG. I went from about a 35mpg average before buying one, now I'm getting 38+ average(late fall/ winter time). We'll see about this summer, when my air/fuel mixture will be optimized .... hopefully should be experiencing a 40+ mpg average
