why does my car thinks its a cheaper version of a hybrid
When I measure my mpg, I just get a full tank, drive till it's empty, then divide the miles driven by tank capacity (13.5 I think). I got about 27 1/2. That's like 75% highway. Is there a diff way of measuring mpg, oter than waiting to get a full tank and driving till it empty?
Well, I don't know what others do but I usually fill it up (I don't top-off), drive until its low, fill it up again, and then divide the miles I drove from the last fill-up (using the trip meter) with the amount of gas that it took to refill the tank.

-fill up, and reset trip
-drive till next fill up (atleast a half a tank)
-keep track of how many gallons it took to refill then divide that by the miles you drove
that will be your exact mpg. so your actually getting better mpg than your calculating. givin that theres about a gallon left at the bottom of your tank when you reach empty and come to the station your probably getting around 29mpg(give or take)

PadilliaxA has correct method for on the spot MPG. Full time monitoring is possible but
still waiting on bluetooth interface to OBD/CPU for iPhone/iPad, maybe have presets for econo/performance... even have a hyperMPG application for max efficiency...
Till then all you can do is monitor performance w/o adding power chips.
wish the Diablo Mafia was available...

Just out of curiosity, have you tried routine maintenance stuff like cleaning the MAF Sensor, changing Spark Plugs, ensuring spark plugs have the proper gap, changing the gas filter, changing the air filter, etc. Also, how many miles does your car have?
Dont forget xA has higher drag coeficient than Tc (xA is like .37 vs Tc mid .20s)...It translates into more work to be done to push air around its chisel-like body. Plus, 1.5 L motor isnt a powerhouse by any means...it all translates into higher consumption at higher speeds.
