Default WOW! don't crash your Xb's and xA's!!

not so great news! I knew I should have waited and ordered my xA with side impact bags!

Read the full article though :
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16273695/?GT1=8816

"The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave its lowest rating of poor in side-impact protection to four vehicles: a version of the 2007 Toyota Yaris without side air bags, the 2006 Scion xB, and 2007 models of the Hyundai Accent and the Kia Rio, which share similar underpinnings."

It says nothing about the xA, just the xB. All the same, the xA is a small light-weight car. That's why I got mine with front side airbags and front/rear side air-curtains.

Yaris and xA are like 99% the same in the ways that make for safety and such + chasy etc. If they say Yaris than it's pretty safe to assume xA also.

I have to wonder when they compare vehicles with and without side air bags DUH! and they consider an xB a light weight vehicle?? Hey at least you can get out of an xB in a crash - the others are hard to get in and out of without being in a crash. I was in a Volvo wagon and just turned my head sideways and wacked it against the ceiling above the door - no room - I gotta wonder how that works when the car gets crushed a little from the side.

Any small car vs. a Hummer/semi truck/train, the smaller car is going to get pwnzd. I wish I'd gotten the curtain side airbags but I'll just hope that if I ever get in a wreck in the xA or Yaris that it's a head-on thing.

Bill Kwong, a Toyota spokesman, said, “We feel our vehicles perform really well in the real-world situation.”
I've seen some nasty wrecks with the xB and xA and the drivers have always been fine, miner scrapes, some bruises...lil stuff.

“People traveling in small, light cars are at a disadvantage, especially when they collide with bigger, heavier vehicles. The laws of physics dictate this,” said institute president Adrian Lund.

The versa is a tiny little car - what happens is the side distance is so small that there is no time for the door to get up to speed from the impact before it hits your head. LOL
Now if they required special liciences for bigger heavier vehicles that maybe would put more people in smaller vehicles and save some gas at the same time. People wouldnt drive so crazy if they knew they would get hurt if they have an accident.

On a positive note I also read that The Scion xA was #9 on the top ten list of cars that depreciate the least. That's excellent as long as we do not get hit on the side
