well I rolled my xA and pretty much anihilated the whole driver's side and front end of the car, no airbags went off aaaand I ended up upside down in a ditch and I walked away with only a stratch on my shoulder...

I think my little xA is pretty safe

I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Default I got the side airbags

I was ____ed though, that I couldn't get stability control as well. It was only offered on the RS, but then you couldn't get side airbags. Side air bags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control should be standard on all cars no matter the price. They really do save lives. Sure, you should be able to disable stability control for track days (though who does track days in an xA?).

Doodletron swerved to miss 2 dear, at freeway speed, these cars handle well, but when you slide into a ditch....you can't do anything but roll.

http://www.automobilemag.com/am/2006...xa/safety.html

Do a simple search for xa side impact safety and get the above site.... and others...

All put the xA at 4 out of 5 stars on all impact points... It is a fairly safe car. I'm pretty sure that this was tested without side air bags too.

This is one of the major reasons I bought the xA over other small econo-boxes.

I had a head on collision with my (first) xA at about 40 MPH. The car was totaled, but I was fine. No scrapes or anything, just a little sore from the airbag impact, but that was all. The car was totaled, but I was impressed that I wasn't hurt! I think it's a pretty safe car, even for its size.

I like that I keep seeing people post positive things against my thoughts on the post. Good to read.

Well, I remember looking at NHTSA ratings for the xA when I got my RS1, and I remember the xA sales in general booming at the time, but I believe this release only helped contribute to the Scion fervor in 2004.

MX-5 Miata: 2482 (MT)

The xB (and xA) are extremely lightweight vehicles...

Anyway, the NHTSA gave the entire Scion line 4-star all-around ratings (besides the xB driver for side impact, a 3-star, and tC driver for front collisions, a 5-star). The vehicles are safe, perhaps not the best, but safe nonetheless. Wear your seatbelt and drive at (or near) the speed limit and you should (again, should) be ok.
