Default XA and cabin Air filter???

Hello. My sister up In Canada has a 2005 Toyota echo hatchback, Im Assuming its the identical car to the XA?? Down here in the USA they dont have Echo hatchbacks!! My question is, Does the echo (XA) have a cabin air filter?? And if so, like the XB, do you have to buy it yourself?? Same set up as XB? Many thanks Scott

It has provisions for one, but it is sold as a separate item.

I found this out when installing the Scion Security in my RS2.

Separate item?
I thought Edmunds had it listed as standard!

I was rather surprised to open up the area where the filter is placed to find that there was no filter.

It'd be alot nicer if they have a reuseable filter like K&N does for the engine air.

I would say the cabin air filter would only need to be changed out once a year, unless you live in a area with a lot of dust. If I recall, the filter comes out of a RAV4.

I put in a cabin filter 3months ago. checked it out last night, BLACK! I didn't know minnesota could be so dirty! It made an incredable difference inside my Xa. The windows stayed much cleaner. I bought a "high end" furnace filter and cut a piece out to size. Filter cost was around ten bucks... I fuigure that I'll get at least four out of it. So a full year of cleaner interior for ten bucks ain't bad...

Look in the owners manual, it has instructions for cleaning and changeing the cabin air filter that doesn't come with the car. But of corse, there is no P/N for the filters. When in doubt RTFM.

For xA, xB, Echo, RAV4: Purolator C38188
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=79817

Meets the TOyota spec requirement. Not as thick or restrictive as the 3M. This is good as it wont restrict A/C flow. I think Purolator is the manufacturer of the more expensive Toyota branded box filters.

Default I was wondering about the filter myself

That answers that question-maybe I'll go buy one.

As for your other question-the Toyota Echo hatchback that is sold in Canada is NOT the same car as the xA. I believe the xA is signifcantly larger.

I didn't even know there was a place for a cabin air filter in the xA. Where the heck does it go? I guess I should go find my Owner's manual LOL

IIRC, you take the glove box apart and it goes there somewhere. The one question I have is that, from reading the manual, it seemed like there was two filters, possibly one disposable and one you washed off, again, if I remember correctly. Since neither came with the car, where do you get the permanent one? It must have a Toyota part number too.

Also, it seems strange that they didn't come with the car-it's a cheap feature to include.

Some might be confused with the engine air filter and the cabin air filter. Most if not all cabin air filters (from Hyundai's to Merc) are disposable. While you can get an engine air filter that is reuseable like the TRD branded one or K&N.

When I bought the cabbin filter from my local Toyota dealer, I asked about the "Other Filter" and was told that none existed. I looked pritty good, and didn't see a way to mount the other filter mentioned by the owners manual either.

I ordered the service manuals (there are 3 total) I will have to see what they say.
