Just wanted to chime in.

I had an '05 xA but nearly totaled it (almost 9K in repairs) 2 months in after hitting a deer on the front drivers corner. It slid down the drivers side and took out both doors along the way. Front bumper, hood, fender, both drivers side doors and glass. Air bags didn't deploy. I wish they had because once i saw the repair bill I just wanted a new car

I ended up putting 110K on it before trading it in. I had a wheel bearing that was starting to go bad, but aside from that and replacing the brake pads (normal for the miles) no major issues or repairs.

Also when I bought the '07 Fit Sport I was surprised when my insurance actually dropped. Its costing about $200 a year less than the xA to insure.

How is the original xB a sub-compact? Because it's smaller than most SUV's?

motor size, anything below (I believe) a 2.0 is a sub compact, most places market it as a sub compact

Yeah.. thats funny because the Civic, Corrola are both 1.8L , and they are considered "compact" . Sure, a Civic/Corrola is bigger then a xA , but not by much... and a xB would be comproble size wise.

It probably goes by the cars weight. My guess is anything under say 2600 pounds curb weight = sub-compact. +2600 is a compact... probably up to about 3000 pounds(tC is just over 2900 ). Thats the only thing I can think of.

well no because the xb is 3300 pounds, and its classified as sub compact, I think its price, and engine size, because the tc weighs around 3000 pounds, but its got a 2.4, and I thought the civic had atleast a 2 ltr

In my Scion guide, it says the xB weights 2400-2500 pounds, less for the manual trans. The xA is about 100 pounds less then that. = those are 04-06 model year weights.

Bigger the engine.. more weight. I'm sure the new xB's are over 3000 lbs

what ever your door jam says, the Scion catolog says different - and if you want to take it a step further, this whole "compact" , "sub-compact" mumbo-jumbo thing is all out of control... not sure if its a insurance classification system, or its how the automakers go about describing there products , but all the way around its Azzzz backwards.

auto companies I believe, the manufacturers, and the auto magazines mostly, the xa, xb, yaris, versa, fit, and aveo (and theres others I'm forgetting I'm sure) are classified as B-segment cars, also called sub compacts, it could be cargo space as another way they classify
