'06 xb grinding problem, warranty question!
Hey guys and gals
I own a 2006 Scion xB that I bought used with 32k miles last march, it currently has 55,xxx miles of normal highway driving.
My issue is a grinding from 3rd to 2nd gear and a notchy feeling throgh all the gears. Now I bought my xB from a non Toyota stealership and purchased an extended warranty up to 80k but I think it's smart to address my issue under Toyota first.
The car is never driven hard, and for goodness sakes it's like a 100 horse power rectangular vehicle how hard could you abuse it, but I've been experiencing this issue and it has gotten worse over time.
I took it to a Toyota stealership and since the car had some modifications like Toyota lowering springs and an exhaust cat back, mind you already on the car before I bought it, they insisted it could be due to driver abuse. The guy even mentioned the car having a CD player like that has something to do with my ____ing transmission?!
Anyways, 5/60k should handle my issue correct?? I picked my car up and I'm now trying to figure out my options!
Should I just call my dealership where I bought it from
call a Toyota/Scion rep and demand help
any input helps! Please let me know if this issue has happened before!!

Walk back into the stealership doing nothing but writing down names and say it's for your report that scion customer-service has asked you to get. The lowering springs (for all they know) were installed by their dealership. The aftermarket CD player BS just screams that they don't know what the job of a mechanic really is. All they have to do is keep you guessing for 5K miles and they can wash their hands of you. The part that needs to be repaired is the synchronizers or the clutch. Offer the service manager to pay for parts (buy them elsewhere) if they take care of service as a last ditch effort.
... 2006 Scion xB that I bought used with 32k miles... currently has 55,xxx miles of normal highway driving. My issue is a grinding from 3rd to 2nd gear and a notchy feeling throgh all the gears.... ... since the car had some modifications like Toyota lowering springs and an exhaust cat back, mind you already on the car before I bought it, they insisted it could be due to driver abuse...
Call the company which you purchased the extended warranty from, explain to them the situation and try to have your car diagnosed from another dealership/repair shop if possible.
If you can prove that those parts were there when you bought it, you might be able to get the dealership you bought it from/warranty company pay for the repairs. If you have no other option than going back to the same Toyota dealership as before, ask to speak to the service manager and explain that you want the car diagnosed/repaired, if he gives you the runaround ask for the name and number for the regional supervisor (for repairs, I forgot the actual title of this person) and hopefully he will become more cooperative. Good Luck!

To the poster who said speed shifting up and down ruins your synchros...thats only if you use the synchros...its called rev matching?
I rev match all the time, and guess what its actually better for your clutch and transmission if you rev match, double clutch, or heel-toe. Now speed "up-shifts" are a different story...you can still quickly shift up while not ruining your tranny...just can't quickly put the stick in the gate...thats bad...
Anyways...I say bring it in, get a quote, find more competitive prices from ASE certified mechanics, bring the lower quote prices and tell them that if they do not fix it under warranty that corporate will be hearing from you.
They offered to supercharge my car at the dealership...I kept telling them I don't have a TC and they told me the supercharge would fit.
So never listen to the guy that makes the money for putting your car into service...tell them you want a mechanic to look at it, quote you for the job that is needed and then if they insist it is not covered under warranty find a cheaper place. A transmission is a transmission...toyota, mercedes, dosnt matter a mechanic knows what to do.
