06 xB Short Ram Intake Problems
I installed a K&N Short ram intake in my 2006 xB and all went well until I went to start the car then the entire car shook violently and it seems like its not getting enough air through. I disconnected the crank case hose and tried to start it again but it still didn't work. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!
Maybe the IAC is having a difficult time stabilizing the idle rpms due to the increase in airflow. it may take it a little bit for the ecu to relearn and control the idle. whenever i mess with my intake, throttle body, exhaust ect... my idle is always a little rough at first then clibs to 1500-2000 and stays there for awhile before dropping back down to 750. if you have hooked everything up right and dont have a vacume leak try again, maybe feather the throttle a little. the ecus can be a pain sometimes.
Those symptoms don't sound like an electronics problem to me. I think the computer has a default map to go by if the sensors aren't working correctly. It sounds to me like something is in the intake blocking the air or you sucked something into the engine.
I suggest taking the intake off and disassemble it to make sure there's no extra packing material or something like that in there. Clean the MAF sensor while you have it apart again just in case. I think a little alcohol is ok for cleaning. Do a search. I've seen other posts that may have better cleaning solutions. If you can't find anything, put the factory air box back on and see if you still have the same symptoms. If it's runs fine, try the intake again. If it doesn't, it's possible you sucked something into the engine. Let's hope not.

DONT WORRY MY FRIENDS I DIDNT SUCK ANYTHING INTO THE ENGINE, I REINSTALLED THE FACTORY AIR BOX BACK IN AND MY XB IS RUNNING FINE BUT ANYTIME I INSTALL THE AFTERMARKET ONE I GET THIS SHAKING AND MY RIDE STALLS. I BELEIVE THE PROBLEM IS AIR COMING IN THROUGH A GAP BETWEEN THE ALUMINUM PIPE WERE I INSERT THE MFS, I DON'T THINK ITS MAKING A COMPLETE SEAL. ANY IDEA?
yeah turn off the caps.
double check everything when it's on. hell, assemble it when it's off the car.
If you do have a gap between the flange and the MAF, send it back.
Have you tried revving the engine when the K&N is on?

Yes I did try revving it after it was installed and the engine just seams to gasp for air.
My question is if I use Permatex sensor-safe gasket maker on the area where I think its leaking and create a seal would it cause any damage to the MFS?

hmm...i wondering if this is persistant to just the 06 xB's? i've heard back and fourth that some people run into problems with their car when they install after market intakes. i'm not sure yet what to believe until i install mine and find out.
I got an 06 RS3. My first intake was the cheapy short ram off Ebay. Gave me no problems, but I did disconnect the battery after it was installed to reset the ECU.
Now I have a Injen CAI converted to short ram. The only problem I had were the screws that hold the MAF were tough to get on. But even with the MAF somewhat "loose" it never gave me problems.
I say double check your vacuum lines too.

Hey Tony, did you have the MAF installed correctly? It only goes on one way. Turn it 90 degrees at a time until it sits flush. If that was correct, then it sounds like the intake may have a defective/incorrect fitting for the MAF.
You didn't break the MFS did you? That would make a HUGE difference. I installed a true cold air on mine, and I also disconnected the battery for about 5 min. to reset ECU. I suggest you do the same, if you haven't already.
