It's been discussed before in many of the swap threads in this section...

stupid imo , "hey lets put a 15+ year old motor in our BRAND new car" no longer smog legal , nowhere near as much reliability as say a 1zz or 2zz. hmmm . I guess it's just not my bag.

The 4EFTE is a reliable engine, and the fact that it will take upwards of 30psi on stock internals sounds nice.

BUT, you california guys and your silly smog... damn... lol

When I move to Thailand, I may be bringing my xA with me (a USDM, left hand drive on right hand drive roads, imagine that!). The don't have the ist there, and there is a 100% tax on imported cars!!!! Anyway, labor is cheap there, and I may consider doing this swap.

relieble yes but it's still an old motor and forced induction motors have more problems since the added stress whether built for it or not , even just maintenence . but yeah cali does suck in that respect.

Thank god I live in Florida.

Why would you want a 1ZZ over a 4EFTE? It's lighter than the 1ZZ, puts out just as much power, and is much easier to upgrade. Not to mention the fitment would be better.

Personally I am a fan of the 4EF-TE, but there are significant benefits to either engine. Primarily, there is the hope of being smog legal (in CA) for the 1ZZ. Secondly, the 1ZZ are a newer design and can be had in better condition than 4EF-TE's. . . long term, the 1ZZ may outlast the 4EF-TE. . . although that isn't necessarily so, it is likely and possible.

Secondly. . . displacement man! Larger displacement may lead to significantly better results that are possible.

But the 4EF-TE, as you said, is a better fit, probably cheaper to get, and easier to upgrade. It's also known to be capable of withstanding higher levels of boost.

word. ive done a few honda swaps myself with older engines and to me it dont make sense to put it in without fully inspecting it and rebuilding it ( and that may not be necessary if you get the engine from some place reliable that does compression and leak tests to the engines prior.). if you got someone who knows what theyre doin in that respect then i dont see why one should worry about how old then engine is.

I don't know man, the 1zz w/ TRD s/c in the Matrix XR still isn't as fast as a stock Matrix XRS. It's kind of odd...
