Default AEM cold air intake filter question.

Hey guys, im still fairly new to scionlife, and still new to having a scion... ha. So i ordered a new intake filter or my aem cai. The size on the existing filter said 2 1/4. So i went on ebay to order a dryflow filter and ordered that size. However when i recieved it, the filter in the box was 2 1/2. I emailed the seller and he said that it would still work, "thats what the hose clamp is for". Will it would, or should i get the smaller one? Sorry for the noob question. i am still learning about this whole "xb" thing ha thanks yall.

Unless it fits the tube snugly I would not try and tighten it down over the smaller tube. It may not fit tight and fall off. Then what??? If he can't supply exactly what you bought and he advertised just send it back and get a reuseable K&N filter and be done with it.

K & N is the best intake you can get. I have a fujita and my bro has the k&n. I like the k&n way better.

He doesn't need the whole intake. Just the filter that goes on the end.

Yea, i already got the filter, but its 2.5 instead of 2.25. I sent him a message, and he said that it will fit anyways, and if not, contact aem, because the package was inaccurately labeled. It was wierd, the box did say 2.25, but the filter was indeed 2.5. bah and of course i didnt notice till i had my battery out, and my old filter off... ha geez

How does that become your problem? You didn't get what you ordered. HIS problem in my book.
This gives you a perfect excuse to send the dry filter back and make a fresh start with a proper fitting K&N.

Thanks for all the input, but my question was merely, do you think a 2.5 filter, would fit on a 2.25 intake? The seller said it would, but i dont want to run into any problems later on. Thanks

I wouldn't put it on. I would wait and get the correct size...(ahem *cough**cough* from experience on other cars and such...LOL). Not anything WILL go wrong, but it CAN go wrong. Mine is 2.25 and it fits snug with the clamp loose...I would hate to check it one day and realize it's GONE!

Yea, im gonna just tell the ebay seller to send me the right one, and freaking check the size before sending it. I would get a k&n, but i dont want to deal with the oil, and crap... idk... yea... i just hate that the filter is hard to get to, im sick of taking off the battery tie down, unhook the battery... reset all my stations on the radio.. haha call me lazy, but its true

I take mine off from underneath the car. It's a pain, but better than taking out the battery and such. I have the AEM Long intake from the dealer and the OEM AEM filter. It is the same as K&N as far as oil....

What kind are you going to use that doesn't require oil? These types of filters NEED the oil to help filter out dust and such, K&N or not.
