Agency Power pulley xA Review
I bought an Agency Power Scion xA pulley from Vivid Racing I ordered it on Friday and received it on Wednesday.
I open the box mad props for the free T-shirt and decals so here is my opinion for the pulley and install. It's just my opinion and everyone has there own thoughts on parts so I thought I would share mine.
First I removed the passenger side wheel and the plastic not to hard right after jacking the car up.
I used a 19mm impact socket on an Ingersoll Rand impact gun to remove the pulley and pulled it out of the car that was the easy part.
The factory pulley weighed approximatly 4.2 pounds on a digital scale.
The Agency Power pulley weighed exactly one pound on the digital scale.
My xA is an automatic I found it very challenging for me and a friend after reading all current tutorials to reinstall the Agency Power pulley.
I loosened the alternator adjustment bolt on top and found the other bolt underneath couldn't be removed we tried everything I couldn't get an air ratchet into the tight space and using hand tools with a 4 foot breaker bar wouldn't budge the bolt. it only rounded it off.
So in the end after 5 hours of intense labor we took a huge pry bar and pushed the alternator as far forward as we could allowing us to reinstall the drive belt.
The power steering belt was a total bear of a job and took brute force and getting the pin to go in the hole with the belts on is almost impossible we finally got lucky at 11 at night by chance and it went in.
Hint we had previously marked the hole and drew a line out from the pin with a marker for guidance. I also didn't see any power steering tensioner on the 2006 xA that was discussed in a DIY boy would it have made the job easy.
I think scion messed up by not putting a normal belt tensioner on the car. or they were just cutting cost and didn't want us to work on our own cars without great pain there is a lot less room to work in the xA then the xB making the job twice as hard.
Final Results: I immediately noticed very fast revving of the engine. The torque will now pin you to the seat and I now feel like I am driving a sports car. The headlights don't dim the interior lights anymore and the air conditioner doesn't seem to suck so much power out of the engine.
Overall I would rate this the best modification I have done to the car especially for the money. I can tell a huge difference in acceleration time it's like night and day the car really comes to life you hit 80mph in no time. I recommend to all but if you aren't willing to do a ton of work or
aren't very patient it's better to have a shop install it. I cannot speak for other pulleys on the market but this one was worth every penny and is the exact same size as the stock pulley the only difference is the weight. and it's a huge difference.
Cons: even with an automatic hitting the button to get the downshifting effect is gone. Only other con was very time consuming and labor intensive ending up working by flashlight isn't a good sign.
Recommend taking to a shop and saving your back we are both SAE mechanics and had one heck of a time but it may be easier if I had a manual or a more detailed DIY for my particular model car.
Mods I currently have done: Agency power pulley,TRD ist header, stock airbox modified with carbon filter and plastic mesh in front of the mass airflow sensor removed.
The mesh gives a one hp gain alone. K&N air filter and removed factory snorkel and ran a universal one down into the wheel well for cold air.
knife edged the throttle body and removed the mesh screen behind it. Tightened the throttle cable for better response. Optima dry cell battery, Hella lighting and stainless steel huge reactive muffler there old top end stuff bought 20 dollars at a junk yard.
Back when they used to make really good stuff. Had it custom fitted and had a Toyota Celica catalytic converter welded in for higher flow it makes a big difference guys trust me.
Suspension: TRD lowering springs, Hotchkis upperstrut tower bar, KYB GR2 Echo Racing shocks, energy suspension polyurethane front sway bar endlinks and inside rubber sway bar bushings were changed to polyurethane.
Custom polyurethane motor mounts prototype will be available to the public soon. Progress technologies rear sway bar. Custom aluminum frame reinforcement pieces and rear strut tower brace all done by local fabricating shop cheaply from aluminum plate scrap.
I have a set of Volk wheels on order.
Security: Viper alarm with starter kill and independent LoJack system with GPS.
Audio: stock. I suck.
Current sponsors: TRD, Applied Technologies research, and the great guys at Vivid Racing.
Memberships: Sports Car Club of America and SCCA I also actively attend Nopi and Hot Import Nights events.
Club: Straightline Racing based out of Denver, CO with affiliate members in Atlanta, GA always looking for new members and we currently have over 150 cars actively involved. From young to old we are all about helping each other we believe each person has a God given talent
and we combine our love for cars and the sport to make cool rides. We have guys that paint, airbrush, tint, do stereos, interiors, power mods, suspensions and we all work together at no charge to help each other have slick rides.

by the way I dropped vivid as a sponser they didn't send some parts and I finally got my money back. So I am not sponsered by them anymore even though I got my agency power pulley at a real cheap price of 95 bucks shipped. I just can't do buisness with a company that tells me one thing and does another and I can't get price quotes on a couple grand worth of parts for my wrx and scion.

A crankshaft pulley has transformed your Scion into a torque slinging, stump pulling "sports car"?

Sweet..
no not kidding the crank pullies make a huge diffrence on the automatics they are alot diffrent then the results on the manuals. why I couldn't tell you but it is a huge diffrence on the automatics.
Overall I was simply laughing at how it transformed your Scion into a hard hitting sports car.
Honestly.. Think about that.
Please tell me more about the differences between the auto and manual crankshaft pulley.
What exactly is a HUGE difference?
Peace.

yeah they are a great price I got mine for 95 dollars shipped but thats when I still considered vivid racing as one of my sponsers they make a huge diffrence with the automatic transmissions and it was the best mod I have done to the car bolt on wise. but there is no way anybody with just handtools can change that pulley on an Xa in 45 minutes try about 5 hours with two people the working area is so tight you just can't get the wrenches in there to get the right tourque on the alternator bolts. The mod is definently worth it
