belt dressing is ur friend, about $1.50 at the autoparts store. If that doesn't do it just get the alternator lose and replace the belt

First of all you posted in the rong forum.
Second, Belt dressing doesnt agically make old belts new again, it just makes them look better.
Finally, losen the altenator, remember how the belts look like, and then install the new one, simple hand tools is all you're going to need.

First of all give the guy a break, he doesn't seem to have that many posts and might just be confused.
Second, hey smarty pants I'm just speaking from experience. About a year after I bought my xA I had the same issue with my belt in the morning, it would start by squealing and then just a squeaky noise. Common sense is to inspect the damn belt and see if there are any cracks and such. If everything looks good, its just that the belt might need some conditioning, hence the belt dressing. It did work for me, why not pass it along? Heck I still use it on my tC every once in a while, to eliminate any squeaky noises from the NST pulley combo.
Finally, I stand corrected.

If the belt appears to be in good shape (and there's a chance it isn't), it just needs to be tightened.

If it's cracked and such, you'll need a new belt. All of my local autoparts stores failed to actually sell me the correct belt, so be mindful of that. First, Autozone and Napa could only come up with the power steering belt, and insisted that I didn't know what I was talking about when I said that I needed the OTHER belt. So, I tried getting the Echo serpentine belt, and that was too short (wtf? it's the same engine!).

Finally, I got, from Autozone, after specifically asking for it, Duralast belt #470K4. No, I won't get a belt from Toyota-- I didn't want to get it online, and the nearest dealers are 30+ miles away.

We have customers at work that use this belt dressing to try and quiet the squeaky belts BUT to no avail! We end up replacing them and tightening them to the correct specs!
