Default Air Intake for 2006 xB?

Hi, all. Just took delivery of a 2006 xB.

Scion no longer offers the AEM intake as an official option. Also, none of the inake manufacturers show the 2006s as a supported application for their products.

Does anyone know if there are engine compartment changes for 2006 that would prevent installation of any of the leading air intakes?

Or is this just a case of Scion getting out of the intake business and the air intake companies not having time to validate their products with the 2006s?

Thanks!

Nothing has changed for the 06 in the engine compartment, everything under the hood is the same. So you can get a regular KandN Typhoon intake and not have to worry about fitment issues. :D

^^^CARB Legal and been around for a while. It was also prototyped by someone here on SL.

There is a new line to be released on the horizon.

As soon as I get one installed, I'll do a full review.

i have the injen and it works great, i recently saw the perrin intake and it looks hot. different looking intake, i would go for that if i saw it first, and the filter is right in the front so it would be easier to change or clean the filter. i got lucky and got my injen for 120 on ebay

Anyone have an idea why Toyota would discontinue the AEM intake?

Yeah, I want to know as well. Seems to me, something fishy is going on. I bet too many tuners were showing up, with fudged up motors due to faulty air intake installs, and then saying somelike, 'Yo, you fixed his CAI, why not mine? ' and then the service techs have to spend time explaining to the fools that one is covered by the TOYOTA service warranty, and the other is not, and blah blah blah...

It really sucks, 'cause I want a AEM one for my xA. I loved the one I had on my xB.

All of the air intakes for the 05's will fit the 06's. Toyota hasn't discontinued the AEM intake. It just hasn't been approved for the 06 by CARB yet. I'm not 100% sure about the K&N but I couldn't find a listing for an 06 on thier site just the 05. I could be wrong but I'd check it out first. The link below is to the intake shoot out with dyno test results

I noticed a CHANGE on the 2006 xB......a reduction in horsepower from 108hp down to 103hp! I can't believe this, but when I last looked at the official Scion website, that's what the new engine specs say. I was thinking maybe they would UP it by 5hp for 2006.....not lower it.

Has anyone else noticed this??

Yeah there was a topic about it a while ago. Its the new rating standards of measuring HP to give a more real number. So its pretty much just SAE corrected, thats all. All in all, the whole line still has 108hp using the old way, or all of them have 103 using the new way. So what does this really mean, its just a number that got more accurate based on something else to compare it to.

there was some talk, I think, about CARB cert requirements being revised (i.e. even tighter restrictions). if that happened it may account for the delay in getting the AEM recertified for 06. Either way toyota most likely won't release it as an option unless it can be 50 state legal. So I'm betting Josh is right and their just waiting for it to be recertified...
You might think same car... same intake... why the hassle... well that's government red tape for you.
