Default Automatic shifter conversion completed

Hi,

I just finished the conversion from column mounted shifter to floor mounted shifter. You are probably wonder what I am talking about. I have a 2000 Toyota BB and a totaled 2006 scion XB. The toyota BB has a column shifter. It's clumsy and we (wife and I) don't like it. So, I decided to change it to the scion XB shifter.
At first, it didn't look to complicated, but boy I was wrong.

What you need is the scion XB floor mounted shifter with the shifter cable and shift lock cable, steering shaft, ignition lock assembly and some wires/splices to extent the plugs for the shift lock, overdrive and lights.

For the shifter cable you need to cut a hole in the floor to go through it to get to the transmission.

The mount actually fits properly in position with the holes already there.

You need to replace the BB ignition lock assembly with the XB one, because it has a different shifter lock cable (no picture yet). There is also a difference in the position of the lock assembly on the steering shaft. So, you also have to replace the steering shaft with the XB one.

You need to trim some of your dashboard to fit the ignition key assembly. At this moment, I can't fit the plastic covers for the steering shaft. I will have to modify the XB one.

Electrical, this was not as difficult or time consuming.
The BB comes also with overdrive button. So, I traced the wires from it and spliced those with the overdrive wires from the XB. (No picture yet)
Then there is 3 wires for the shift lock switch. One is a ignition wire (red/black). I just traced an ignition power source and spliced it from there. This is a cable from the instrument panel.

Second wire is a ground (white/black). Just any good ground connection will do. Name: DSC04951.jpg

Last wire to be connected is green/white and comes from the stop light switch (green/red). Name: DSC04947.jpg

Overall, nice result. We like the floor mounted shifter. We did have to turn the grip handle around for the overdrive button. No adjusting had to be done to the shifter cables. All fitted nicely.

Only problems at this moment are the plastic covers for the steering shaft and the overdrive switch is different. You have to push the button and hold it to deactivate overdrive. We don't deactivate it, so for us not a real problem.

I hope this was a nice write up for you to enjoy.

If any questions, comments or help, let me know. I will try to help as well as possible.

Thanks,

Sven

wicked mod, but nobody has the column shifter!! or a bB for that matter.

If you decide to go for a center console hand brake I would love the foot brake pedal assembly to go in my xB so I could strip down the center console to something more useful

Good work

Hi CanxB,

I did convert to the center console handbrake. And I still have the foot brake laying around. If you want it, let me know. Maybe we can work something out.
Thanks,

Sven
