[Scion xB, 2006]

Hey there,
I took my car in to have the alternator replaced, and less than a week later this flies out from under the hood:





(Here it is next to a book for comparison)


I've tried looking around to see a list of belts in the car so I can determine which one it is, but all I can find is the Serpentine Belt, which is supposedly an all-in-one belt, but this looks pretty short. (You can safely assume I know exactly zero things about cars in general)

My question is: what is this belt called, and if the alternator was replaced less than a week ago, is this something that they would have worked on and should have determined unsafe?

Our cars have two belts (probably time to replace both)

If your power steering doesn't work then it's the power steering belt in back. The other longer serpentine multi-groove belt is for the air conditioning, water pump and alternator so if the alternator light is on don't drive the car because you won't have any water pump either.

They may have left the old belt in there when it fell down on the frame where they couldn't see it or reach it.
